I was previously granted a TWP, but had to return home after 12 months for a period for a family issue, a further 12 months have passed, however, can I now return to my employer under the existing TWP which is still within the initial 3 year timescale...??

Any advice would be appreciated...

I'm not an expert, but I'd guess that if the employer is OK with that, then yes.

Thanks for the quick reply.... yes, my employer are delighted to have me returning, doing exactly the same job, same location .... and have advised they will be happy to provide confirmation that I have a permanent post.... just wasn't sure of any implications for being away 12 months... :-)

As I said, I'm no expert, but if the employer's onside, why would CIC or CBSA object to an extended unpaid leave of absence for family reasons?

If you are on a temporary work permit your job is temporary. However, there is nothing to stop your employer from offering you a permanent job that you can use to apply for permanent residence.
