Cad. customs opening incoming international mail and then forwarsd onto immigration

Hi there
just saw an interesting piece on the tv news. The report was on the details that the
government routinely inspects and opens mail from abroad that arrives in canada (from
some countries more than others) and then copies the contents and forwards the
details onto the immigration authorities. I guess they are looking for details of
people who are trying to stay in the country illegally etc.
Poses some thoughts and some questions!!!
