Default Byuing car in BC or Alberta?

Sorry, this is really out of immigration topic, but at least related to Canada.

If one lives in BC where taxes are high does it make any sense to go buy a car in
Calgary where there's no prov. taxes?

Thanks.

You can not get away with the PST. You will be charged when you register your vehicle
in BC. Regards,

No, it doesn't. That's because since you were a resident of BC when you bought the
car, BC would make you pay BC sales tax on the car before they would allow you to
register it in the province.

In general, those goods, if purchased outside BC by a BC resident, are subject to BC
PST if they are brought into BC.

The main difference is that in the case of an appliance, it is up to the BC resident
to come forward and remit the sales tax to the government of BC. In the case of a
car, you have no choice but to pay it because you can't register your car in BC until
you pay it.

A thought (going on a tangent here), I wonder what the resident's Insurance
company/BC govt. would do if:
- the BC resident does not come forward and remit the sales tax to BC govt. for
the appliance
- the appliance is either stolen or causes damage to property (say, a short
causing fire)

...wonder if there's a precedent.

You will also have to have any car brought from out of province subjected to a B.C.
vehicle inspection, which is (as I recall) about $100.00.
