Buffalo Vs. Detroit
All,
Why is it that Detroit processing seems faster and more detailed than
the Buffalo Office? If you look at the Detroit Consulate website it
lists all the cases that are ready for Visa issuance and those that
are ready for interviews.
Don't they work the same way?

Simple... I think Buffalo is swamped and does not have as much "free
time" as Detroit to send applicants flowers and chocolates.

At the risk of sounding like an complaining ingrate, its really
disgusting how uncoordinated the consulate offices are. I think
you're 100% right, that they should all work the same way. I followed
your advice, and was shocked that Detroit, at LEAST, posts the ready
file #'s so that an applicant is not left in the dark for a year or 2.
I can't really say that I've had a long drawn out application
process, b/c I applied in November 2002 and here it is May 2003 and
i'm already almost done w/my process (i'm waiting for my stamped
passport to be returned any day now) but I've been reading these posts
for about a year now, and I really feel the frustration for those who
can't seem to get any answers about their files. Even when I sent my
Right of Landing Fee, i never even got a RECEIPT, OR letter indicating
that they received my payment. I called the offices and was told by
the receptionist to fax (always FAX, of course!) a letter to
Immigration. You would think that sending $635USD/$950CDN of your
hard earned money would earn you something from Buffalo, any type of a
response--- i sent 2 faxes to them-- nothing..i only knew for sure
that they had gotten the money once i received my passport request
letter (a month later).
I don't want to minimize the work that the Immigration officers do, I
realize that they have thousands of applicants to attend to and can't
possibly call/fax/respond to everyone for every little question.
However, i do think they need to open up a telephone call centre
(strictly for immigration questions/applicants), or update their
website, so that people don't HAVE the need to call/fax left and right
to find out the status of their applications. I dunno, i guess i'm
dreaming, or just venting from a really long day... *smile*
Best wishes to everyone, -P
