ok I am american who married a Canadian my husband is sponsing me from within Canada.
My mom wants to come here to visit me because I just had a baby and She is a american
citizen but she was born in Germany.
She has some paper that says she is a american citizen I was wondering is that a good
piece of paper to show at the border?
Please email me personally Thanks in advance -Diane

Hi:
Your mother, at best, should provide an American passport, and at worst, provide
photo ID, such as a driver's license, along with a citizenship card.
Yours truly, Ingrid Y. Chen, B.A., LL.B.

If this paper is a US certificate of naturalization or citizenship then it should
have her picture on it. That would be enough for her to visit Canada. If the document
is a report of birth abroad of a US citizen then it would not include her photo and
she should bring along some photo ID, as well.
Plus, if her name on the document listed is not the name she is using now (ie: if she
changed it due to marriage or divorce), she should bring the documentation showing
her change of name.
