Default Being Positive Works !!

Having been in Canada since April 2000 and being sponsored inland by my
Canadian husband things have gone well for me and my sons and seem to be
getting better.

I got a job in June 2001, became landed in July 2001 and now after a short
16 months of working for Black's photography store have been promoted to
Assistant Manager in an important and very busy Mall store. There are
Canadians who have taken longer than this to gain promotion.

I am 45 years old and came to Canada prepared to take what I could, work
hard and change career if need be. I never dreamt I could do this so soon
and have got a job I love. I am in retail which is not where I envisioned I
would ever be, but I think I have proved that if you leave your preconceived
ideas back "home" and accept how it is here that it goes a long way to being
successful!!

And the nice thing is that along the way I have made lots of friends.

So to all the negative people out there, I wanted to make my story heard to
give some positive feedback to those interested.

Good to hear us folks from Blackpool can get on well in Newmarket eh?

I only hope I am as succesful as you in finding a job when i get over there.

I think my only advantage is being a recent graduate i don't actually have
any career herein the UK to compare with, no expectations as regards salary
and i don't expect to fit into any certain level of employment because its
not like ive spent 15 years here working my way up and have to drop down to
entry level to make it, entry level is what im looking for anyway.
Maybe i will have to fill in an application form for Blacks, they seem to
like us northerners, you moved to the Upper Canada Mall now?

Well done you! I really mean it - I know I am negative about this place for the most part, but after seven years here I think I am entitled to call it as I see it. Things are starting to look up for us too, but only because we both stopped fighting the system, (threw in the towel basically) and re-trained. It comes hard when you have to abandon a professional career and start all over again at our ages. The salary drop was also huge for me, and to be honest that comes very hard with the amount of kids I have! However, as you say, if you are prepared to compromise, then things can work out.

I agree. That's basically my own profile when I went there seven years
ago. You'll be just fine, effectively the same as all the other
Canadian graduates.
