ATTN: Mr.Miller & Mr.Jim: How long should I wait
Dear Experts,
I am at the final stage waiting for my background/security checks
to be completed. I have completed my medicals and waiting for past seven
months. Apparently it is taking more time. I have lived in four countries,
Sri Lanka, India, US and Malaysia.
My question: Is there any maximum time limit for background/security check?
What happens if this background/security check takes for ever? Is there a
possibility that immigration may conclude the case if they dont receive
the security checks within particular months/years?
Your answers are greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

No, there is absolutely no limit on the time needed to complete
background/security checks - it takes as long as it is needed.

Re: ATTN: Mr.Miller & Mr.Jim: How long should I wait
I have one more question. Is the background/security check is based
on Full Name and Passport number or just the name. Because I have renewed my
passport after moving out of India and Canadian Immigration has my new passport
number. Do I have to inform my old passport no to CIC? How does it work?

Your passport number has nothing to do with background/security check
your life will be x-rayed completely since you were 18, no matter how
many passports and names you had since. You must notify CHC about new
number anyway.

Passport number is relevant that is why passport has numbers.
