Approval Sent to Old Address in US
I applied for Canadian immigration to Buffalo when I was in the US, on
Aug 31 2001. Later, I returned to India and faxed them my new address
in India on Dec 9. On Dec 26 2002, I learnt from the new resident at
my old address in the US, that he had received a package in my name
from Canadian Immigration. He had been out of town and had just seen
it, but the package had been mailed out on Nov 22 and reached on Dec
3. I asked him to check the package, and it said that I needed to send
them my passport within 30 days. That deadline was already past, and
also I cannot send my passport out of India. So I guess that they
would need to transfer my file to India, and the Canadian Embassy here
would have to ask for my passport.
I would like to communicate with somebody there and ask them what I
need to do. The problem is i am unable to get through on the 1-800
number, or see anything on the e-client. I have faxed a letter
explaining my problem to the number I was asked to fax if I was unable
to send them my passport. I am worried that if we are going to be
communicating between India and Canada through snail mail, it will
take forever. And my medicals were done in September.
Mr. Miller, Mr. Cohen, and other resident experts: I would appreciate
any ideas you have. Thanks.

Re: Approval Sent to Old Address in US
Hi Riaz,
I know how it feels. It took me 4 months and > 10 faxes, 2 mails, 1
DHL to have my address changed.
Don't transfer the file yet. Fax immediately all that you explained
here - that you faxed but was still sent to the old address and you
got late notification. Change of address fax # is 716-855-0512 but
also send to these additional 2 numbers: 716-858-9591 and
716-852-2477).
Also request to keep your file open.
Check your status and current address on file by e-status @
http://services1.cic.gc.ca/ecas/ECAS...&page=ECAS.jsp
need your file number, last name, DOB, and country to check the
status.
You can still use FedEx to send the Passport.
