Default Applying for PR, but not a 'skilled' worker

Hello, i am currently on my second working holiday visa since arriving in April 2012 and in May i will have to return home to the UK. I am very passionate about staying in Canada for longer (if not forever)

I have noticed that my current job as a bartender/supervisor does not come under the skilled work applications (i expected this).

I was just wondering if anybody has had a similar situation where they found a way that they could still apply for PR, but not necessarily through a skilled occupation, any information would help.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to BE!

Which Province are you currently living and working in? Some Provinces have a semi-skilled worker stream, some also have a stream for those in the service industry.

Ontario doesn't have a semi-skilled stream unfortunately, so your only choices for employment based PR would be to get a different job or to move provinces to one that does.

Or do you have another route to PR i.e. a Canadian partner?

I don't have a Canadian partner right now. Does B.C have a semi-skilled stream?

Yes it does, and bartenders are a qualifying occupation, but you couldn't apply until you've worked there for at least 9 months so you'd need to get there ASAP!

Yes, for specific occupations, but you need to have been working in BC for 9 months to be able to apply.

Is there a list i can access to see what jobs i would need to apply for to stay in Ontario? That seems my most realistic right now.

Thank you very much for all your help as well, very much appreciated.

It's any skilled job, so literally thousands of them - there's no list. You can check out which Skill Level any job is on the HRSDC website and NOC matrix. It would need to be Skill Level A, O or B to qualify for PR in ON.

HTH, good luck.

So i have booked an appointment with an employment agency for next week to discuss job opportunities, although going for 'skilled' jobs, or jobs in categories A, B, or C seems unrealistic as i have always worked in hospitality and have no 'official' degrees etc. Either way, won;t go down without a fight

I assume work sponsorship is out of the question also?

Have you worked long enough in the industry to go for a mangement role. Education although helpful isnt always the path to a great career and riches. Sometimes having time served and knowing what your doing can help.

Self yourself and see what you can get

I think you would need to have a certain amount of hours time served and you would need to challenge the red seal which is the certification for some trades out in Canada.
