Default Applied with 73 points - what are the chances under the new system?

Experts, is there a chance to get it if my self assessment resulted in
73 points? I scored maximum in all but could not score 75 due to Lack
of French, a wife and Canadian experience.

You are heading for refusal unless there are solid indicators in your case
leading processing officer to believe that you will succeed economically in
Canada regardless the number of points scored. But don't count on it - you
would have to have some rather unique and exceptional qualifications sought
by Canadian employers while there is shortage of candidates on the market,
you would have to have a lot of money to support yourself for couple of
years without a job and/or to help you create job for yourself, etc.

If you are just average Joe with minimum (or even 3 times the minimum) of
settlement funds and your skills and experience are not in any field with
critical workers shortage in Canada then your chances are next to none, so
don't hope for much...

Study French, Take TEF and apply in 6 months. you can qualify then.

With the high number of applicants who apply with 75 points, an applicant
with less than 75 has little or no chance. (Yes I know about positive
discretion, but why would CIC bother in most cases, when there are enough
qualified applicants? There would have to be something outstanding about the
applicant that the points do not reflect. This would have to demonstrate up
front in the application)

Not sure where you are based - but a good way would be to look for
"Alliance Francaise". They are present in most countries nowadays and
offer certificate courses and are quite good.
