Hello experts,

A friend of mine is preparing her documents to apply for the PR status. Presently,
she is in Canada and apparently will apply through the Buffalo office in the
nearest future.

Her international passport is expiring on 10th of Jan, 2004. Would it be a
problem for her?

It depends - if her application process is concluded well before the expiration of
her passport then she'll be fine, but if not then she'll need new passport before
visa may be issued. I assume that your friend is from former Soviet bloc, so it is
safe to assume that processing will take at least 16 to 20+ months based on current
data and may as well take longer. I will be good idea to apply for new passport (or
extension of existing one) if application process is not concluded by summer of 2003.

The Buffalo office asks that passports be valid for at least 12 months following
submission of an application. The expiration stated should satisfy this requirement.
