Any info would be greatly recieved.
We have decided we want to live in canada (vancouver) we think, my husband, IT background, me who intends not to work for a while (well while we all settle, i am nursery nurse trained) and our 3 children 6, 4, and 2, do we need to apply for visas if my husband got a job offer or can we do it when we get there? or do we need one regardless of job status?
Any other advice would be fantastic, thank you

Welcome to the forum.

Please start your learning process in the following order:

1. visit CIC website

www.cic.gc.ca

2. read Wiki (link above in blue menu bar); and of course

3. browse past posts here

You cannot apply for anything in Canada - even if in Canada as visitor once you get job offer with LMO (or LMO exempt) you apply for work permit through proper visa post outside Canada or, in certain circumstances at Canadian port of entry when arriving to Canada.

But please, learn at least basics before asking questions that have been answered hundreds of times already. Your question is very basic and not specific enough to give you a concise answer, instead of writing a book on the topic.

sorry my young son insisting on helping me haha as i was saying,
Most of your questions can be answered by reading the WIKI pages above as Andrew has said, it takes ages so be patient, some of the IT jobs do not need an LMO (labour market opinion ) which you need before you can get your WP ( work permit ) which seems to be the thing that takes a long time there is a thread on here about LMOs seams to be taking months, once you have a job that is, click on WIKI above, Canada and then immigration and explore there is lots to learn, good luck
