Hi,

I applied for an extension and change of status from student to visitor. I requested
the extension for a year because I am getting married (now happily married) and
would be applying for PR from within Canada. I have been here (Canada) since 1992 as
a student.

Today, I received a letter from the immigration saying that my case has been
transfered to an immigration office in Ottawa...and they have indicated that I should
not contact them, they will contact me. My questions are:-

1. What could be the reasons for the transfer?
2. How long will it take before the contact me?
3. Should I send out my PR application before I hear anything from immigration?

Please advice me of anything that might be of help to me. I am full of water in
my stomach..

Thanks for all you who will respond. EK44

The most likely reason for transfer to the local office is that you will be called
for the interview. It is really hard to say when you'll be contacted, but it
shouldn't take longer than few weeks. You should also start your inland spousal
application process immediately.

Thanks so much Andrew for your advice. I am waiting for FBI clearance and police
clearance from my home country. Can I start my application without it or should I
wait till I get the clearance. I also have my medica July 6th, can I send my
application before doing the medical? I have a son who is
2.5 should I include him in my application? He is a US citizen.

Thanks again Andrew EK44

Wait for police clearances. What kind of medicals you have in July? Is your son
living with you?

Thanks again for your advice and quick response. Yes my son lives with me and I have
full custody, by court order. I have made an medical appointment with one of the
DMP's here in Ottawa for the purpose of immigration.

Your advice is much appreciated, EK44

In such case you must include your son in the application as an accompanying
dependent. You also need a notarized letter of consent from your son's other parent
allowing you to move him permanently to Canada. While waiting for police certificates
you may have medicals done (both, you and your son).

Mr. Miller,

I have another question...where they are asking for my proof of status in Canada,
what documents should I include? Should I include my expired authorization and/or the
letter they sent me saying I should wait for them to contact me?

Also I have been to the US several times and there have been times where my passport
has not been stamped upon entry and this includes my most recent entry. Where they
are asking for the most recent entry stamp should I just send the one that is most
recent, 1996, even though I was in the US in
1998/99 and came back to Canada in 1999 or what should I do?

Thank you so much ... you advice is much appreciated.

Include everything you have - expired authorization, copy of extension application
and letter received. As for the most recent entry tell the truth - it is not about
stamps in the passport, it is about declaring facts.
