Advice please!! $50 cheque in the post FROM CIC. Why???
Hi all,
I have started to panic. This morning in the post I received a cheque for $50 in it. No explanation, nothing! I don't know what this means. We did pay for the residency card upfront when we submitted for common law route. but I didn't think they would refund. Does this mean a refusal? We're still showing on ecas as in process.
I have never been so distressed at seeing a checque with my name on it! Hopefully someone can shine some light on this.
Thanks!

If you don't have PR yet, then that'll be why they've returned it, it's nothing to worry about. Until you actually have PR and can do a proper application for the card, there was no point in sending them any money. Plus when you do pay for your PR card, you can only pay online or at a bank in Canada anyway.
Out of interest, what on earth did you put on the forms for questions like 'date you became a permanent resident' etc?!?

Hi
Dollars to Donuts, the OP is applying as PR and thought that s/he had to include the price of the PR card as well as the application fee. The cost of the initial PR card is included in the application fee of $550

I am totally confused now? What is OP? We did pay in total $1090 so an extra 50 bucks - but I guess it was too soon. However, from other posts on here, it seems that people weren't refunded, but just got the card sooner....Why is cic so confusing?

Hi Christmasoompa,
Thanks for this - I sort of thought this might have been the reason for refund, but not sure why it didn't come with an explanation.
I didn't fill out any forms with those questions - just NA, as I'm a citizen by birth. I hope I'm not missing anything!?

Hi
1. OP is you, the original poster.
2. I think that you are confusing yourself. The fee for the application and the Right of Permanent Residence is $550+$490 = $1040.
3. The PR card is processed at the time of "landing" and if an address is supplied on "landing" the applicant gets the card mailed out in 43 business days. The fee for it is included in the $550.
4. So you overpaid, and got a refund. No explanation needed.

Sorry for seeming so thick - all very clear now.
Cheers!
