Activated PR on USA Holiday - Info
Hi
Just wanted to provide an update incase this helps anyone else.
I went on holiday to the US last week and crossed over to Canada at the Thousand Island crossing purely to activate the visa. The Canadian authorities were helpful with all our questions and we had no issues at all. As I have arranged employment we weren't asked for proof of funds. The process took no more than 15 minutes and that includes parking the car! We turned straight back into the US with no problems.

Thanks for the post. We're activating our visas in Ottawa, but then spending our holiday moving between TIP and Kingston, so it's reassuring to hear you had no problem.
Warm regards,
Maggie

I'm doing something similar next week. Just one question. What supplementary paperwork, if any, did you bring?
Thanks

We took the forms sent from the embassy (the one with the photo on) and that was the only thing they requested apart from the passports.
I did take quite a lot of paper work just in case; employment contract in Canada, proof of funds, marriage certificate, anything i thought relevant. The immigration officer did say that activating the visa is more of a formality and all the hard work is done before in the UK.
I found the officer very helpful so you will be fine.
Also, this may not be relevant but if you are hiring a car from the US to cross the border to Canada just let the hire company know when you pick up your car and they will give you an additional insurance note.
