Question 2 year work permit - how do we leave and return?

Just a quick question, sorry if this has been asked many times already, feel free to tell me off and redirect me!

We are in Canada and have a 2 year work permit which states that it does not permit re-entry should we leave. We have just found out my mother-in-law is quite sick and want to know how my husband (the lead work permit holder) could enable a visit home, if it were of dire need.

Any help in this matter is greatly appreciated!

What they mean is that the work permit is not a visa for entry to Canada. It only allows the holder to work while in Canada. Those who need visas to enter must also have one when they arrive at the POE. If you are British then it does not matter because you do not need a visa to enter Canada for a temporary purpose.

So....to be clear.......because it is late and I am not functioning well tonight :

He could go to the Uk for a week and return to Canada without losing the work visa/permit and not requiring a special visa to facilitate that visit.

I did the same. I was on a TWP and had to go home suddenly . I went back to the UK and was able to re-enter Canada with my TWP just had to tell immigration where I went and why, there were no problems.

I have left Canada and returned over 30 times in the 18 months I have had my TWP - it's not an issue...

this might be different because i'm australian on a working holiday visa

i was told on my letter of introduction that the "does not authorize re-entry" does not apply

it says that on my work permit, but i have left canada and re-entered twice without issue

Because you are from a visitor visa exempt country. If you weren't you would require a TRV to enter as well as the work permit.
