********* Why Canada sucks ??? *********

This is for those of you fools who think Canada
is the perfect country to go to.

Here are some facts about Canada and particulary cities like Toronto:

1- Canada is NOT a merit-based country, which means that your education
and your credentials doesn't count at all here.

2- Canadians stand for nothing !!! These people have no enthusiasm, no
conviction in anything, no fun in their sorry lives, no heros, and
no future.

3- There is no such thing as Canadian dream like you have in mighty US.

4- Canadian life specially here in Toronto is to work like a dog until you
die.

5- This is the worst county for single, professionals like me.
I came to this county two years ago and I found out that just
about everything sucks in here, first and foremost Canadian mentality.

6- if you are an ambitious person this is not a country for you. Go to US
instead.

7- I have 75000 per year salary and a high tech job, but I can wait 'til
I'm outta this dumpster.

Hey Chill out!!
I am also an immigrant and living in Canada for 3 years and I love it. I think this is the best country to live.
You are right! Canada does not deserves a loser like u. If you say that you are in high tech job and living in Canada for three years then probably u would have tried a job in the USA under NAFTA. Let me guess they did not want u either! Here in North America everyone works hard and enjoy the life. So please do Canada and yourself a favor, Go back to your country.

no, he is not the minority. A lot people here in Ottawa have the same
opinion. I agree too. Canada sucks unless you are from a country where there
will be a war or extremely poor or the policy is extremely unhuman.

If it's that bad, one has to ask, why are you here ?

Re: ********* Why Canada sucks ??? *********

Well I donot know which group are you hanging with but according to recent studies Canada is among the top six best place to live in.
Someone in this newsgroup have already already pointed out that Canada does not differentiate the education system of different countries. So some people immigrated to Canada under Skilled worker category with substandard education degree hoping to will six figure salary with little effort. But when they come to Canada they realize that they have to compete with talented people from all over the world. So the people who slipped through the immigration process under Skilled worker category screens out in job hunting. This is not Canada's fault that they were incompetent in the first place. These are the people who starts cursing Canada..Well sorry if you donot like then go back to your respective countries.
Canada did not come to your home begging to immigrate but it was your decision.

If you're Australian as you've said on a different post, you should be
aware (if you're not already) that you will be able to keep your
Australian citizenship after you become Canadian.

Australia's law changed on 4 April 2002.

This is just a bunch of subjective claims without a single
shred of evidence to support them.
In addition, it's full of cliches, ambiguous words, emotional
statements and loaded language, such as "you fools", "perfect
country", "merit-based country", "stand for nothing", "enthusiasm",
"conviction", "sorry lives", "no heroes", "no future", "mighty US",
"work like a dog", "everything sucks", "Canadian mentality",
"ambitious person", "this dumpster".

Needless to say, this is not a valid argument.
The author is quite possibly a frustrated, depressed individual,
with serious problems in personal life - obviously, in this case
requiring professional help. Or maybe he just wanted
to provoke some kind of fiery debate - obviously, this is not
a good way to start a *serious* debate.

Why even bother discussing it?

Canada sucks indeed

In the original posting George stated that Canada sucks. I lived in Canada for 27 years (age 4 to 31) and then got the hell out. Everything George said is entirely correct.

But here's why Canada sucks.

The British, after ruining their own country, settled into Canada and began sytematically ruining Canada. The Bristish game plan works like this.

Allow as many immigrants as possible into the country. Tax the shit out of them through both income and sales taxes. Ever notice how all the Brits have the higher level government jobs?

Why is that any product you buy in Canada is priced at two times the level in the US? A $US 25 dollar item in the US costs $CAD 50 in Canada. Given that the exchange rate is 1.55 where does the extra 45% come from? It comes from the Brits pocketing the extra 45%.

Indeed Canada sucks and it will keep on sucking until all the Brits are driven out.

Re: ********* Why Canada sucks ??? *********

May be it does but all the people I have met in Canada seem more relaxed
compared to the majority in US who are stressed out. The prices indeed are
higher in Canada and they have more taxes but this is because of a better
welfare system they have to spent money on.

Re: ********* Why Canada sucks ??? *********

I think you may possibly be delusional, when what is now Canada was
originally colonised by the British there wasn't a country there, just
native tribes and soem French traders like the original British traders who
went in trading furs. Then the two built up their empires there, had several
battles until the French lost and the British won. However it was still
British North America and there was no Canada to be ruined. In fact if it
wasn't for the British (or the French had they won) then there wouldn't be a
Canada at all probably just a much larger USA.
Canada finally got it's own flag and so forth in the 50's and finally it's
own constitution completely seperate from the UK in 1982.
Immigration to Canad from the UK has been minimal in the past decades and
the majority of all immigrants are now coming from aisia, china, indian
subcontinent etc.
The idea that there are british people in power is a bit silly as well as i
think you will find most people in power are Canadian.
So im not quite sure what it is you are saying. Are you saying that everyone
who speaks english should leave Canada? Or everyone of european decent? Or
are you jsut trying to make up excuses for why you couldn't make a life
there?

Indeed Canada sucks and it will keep on sucking until all the Brits are driven out.

I am afraid you are mistaken, have you any idea how hard it is to get into this country, you need 75 points, take a look at what you need to acheive that it's difficult .

I just returned from Seattle (great city ). I didnt buy anything because it was cheaper at home (the rate exchange had nothing to do with it).

We all pay taxes unless you know of a better way ?????

Were did you live? were are you now ?

A perfect example is bread, or milk. They're the same price...only in
the US, it's in US dollars. At a chain restaurant, be it McDonalds or
something more classy, the meals are about the same price...only it's in US
dollars, therefore making the Canadian meal a heck of a lot cheaper.

If you hated it here so much, why did you take so long to leave?
I have lived here all of my life, born here and I thank God each
morning when I wake up that I live in Canada.
I am glad that you left

Canada is a jewel and how ANYBODY second rates it to America is sadly
misguided or an idiot, proberly both.

As for the earlier comments about the british, I just wonder how much
the person actually knows and if he knows better why isnt he doing
something about it. Any why stop at expelling the brits ? Sh1t, get
everyone out and return the country to its original owners, you
remember them ? sure you do, the ones lying drunk along the sidewalks
of the big cities. Look what progress has brought them.

Before anyone opens their mouth to complain about one race or another
or about what some group is doing wrong to canada, just take a step
back a little and ask yourself where is this going to take me.

Canada rules. Be proud of canada, and if your not then do something
constructive. Either put up or shut up.

Canada sucks

Ok - I can see there is a mixed reaction to my posting. First of all, regarding prices of bread and milk being the same in US and Canada. To an American being paid in US dollars, 2.99 is the same as it to a Canadian being paid in Canadian dollars. However, how much more will that Canadian worker be paid in their future? Most Canadian workers experience little or no raises and opportunity. If you don't believe me try the following:

Go to the Monster Board at www.monster.com and type in something general like "accounting" and restrict your search to Chicago (a population of 3 million people) and you'll get just over 800 hits. Now go to Monster.ca , the canadian site, and type in "accounting" but expand your search to include all of Canada (a population of 30 million people) and you'll get around 450 hits.

This is just one acid test to describe Canada's pathetic state.

Here's another way to describe Canada's failure.

John Smith makes US $100,000 living with his stay-at-home wife and three dependent kids in Chicago with a mortgage of $200,000. If you do the tax calculation using 1040-A (itemized) you'll see that John pays about 11% in income taxes. So John has $90,000 left over to spend. Everthing he buys has a sales tax of 8% so John can purchase items with a retail price totalling no more than $83,000 ($7,000 being the sales taxes = $90,000).

Joe Brown makes US $100,000 living with his stay-at-home wife and three dependent kids in Toronto with a mortgage of $200,000. If you do the tax calculation you'll see that Joe is not allowed to deduct his mortgage interest from his income. The Canadian tax tables a lot higher and so Joe pays about $30,000 in income taxes and has $70,000 left over. Given that there is a 15% tax in Canada (sales tax and GST), Joe can only purchase items with a retail price totalling no more than $60,000 ($10,000 being the GST/PST).

Now, everything Joe Brown busy in Canada retails at twice the price as the United States (except milk and bread as reported by another user). Therefore Joe Brown in Canada ends acquiriing US $30,000 worth of products whereas John Smith acquires $83,000 worth of products.

And what does Joe Brown get in return? To be part of a long waiting list for medical carea and little or no preventative health care. John Smith in the US has a medical plan through work or pays $400 a month ($4,800 per year) for medicare.

Again, Canadians can thank the Brits for this injustice and inequality. I lived in Canada long enough to figure things out, believe me.

As far as the user that asked where the Brits are in high govt. positions? You obviously don't get to deal with other companies in your job eh? Take a little stroll through Ontario Hydro, Board of Ed, etc... you'll see plenty of pale skinned, nasty teeth, bad hair brits pretending to be gainfully employed.

I am a born and bred US Citizen. I have lived here for 33 of my 35 years.
I will soon be immigrating to canada with my canadian husband. Why??
Because, you see, success does not come from the Country in which you choose
to live. Also, success is not determined by what you bring home in your
paycheck. My husband immigrated here last year. He is a US Greencard
Holder. And he wants to return to canada. If your only goal in going to
canada is to pretend you are in the US, then you may as well not even try.
People, the US sucks. If you are "Joe Job" holders such as my husband and
myself, and the majority of US citizens and Canadian citizens, ONLY then can
you examine the quality of life within the country. Going to Canada is not
a stepping stone to the US. Its going to the country with the better
quality of life. Period. BTW, as far as searching on Monster.com, perhaps
you should try a Canadian Job Board such a Workopolis.

Just my two cents(US).

I wouldn't put any validity on your monster acid test, simply because there may be other websites that are more popular in Canada among job seekers and employers than Monster in the USA. Even in the US I am not using monster.com as much anymore because it's mostly recruiters posting their jobs there. These days there are industry specific search engines available that prove to be more efficient.

Re: ********* Why Canada sucks ??? *********

Not to mention teh fact a $100,000 salary is hardly average. His tax
comparison as far as sales tax goes is crap as well as he only decided to
use Ontario's higher 15% total where as you have some provinces with no
provincial sales tax at all which reduces it to just GST.
There are also places in the US where you can pay the same if not more tax
than some places in Canada, and look at teh difference in what you get.
Sure he berates Canadas health system but at least it has one for all it's
citizens and not one for people who are fortunate enoguh to be able to
afford one or have a nice job that provides one. If you talk to a lot of
people in the US at the moment their main concern is that with the economic
problems and business problems company healthcare is one of teh first things
to go leaving them with huge private insurance expenses to keep the same
things.
you can still pay for private care in Canada if you want but if you are
unlucky enough to not be able to afford it or lsoe yoru job or you company
has no healthcare scheme then at least if your kid breaks their leg you dont
have to remortgage your house.
and as for seeing british people everywhere in authority then thats just a
veiled racist attitude seen as you apparently can recognise wether someone
is British because of the colour of their skin.
It may suprise you to know that not everyone in Britain is white and so
forth, it is highly unlikely that many of the people you speak of in charge
of ontario hydro and other companies are from Britain, i should imagine they
are born and raised in Canada, you just see a white guy and presume he is
British or soemthing, why can't he be french, or american or german? I
suppose if you saw someone of Indian or Chinese decent you would presume
they weren't British when they could quite easily have spent their entire
life in Britain. What race someone is has nothing to do with what their
nationality is. It's that kind of mentality that creates racial divides in
countries and cities and towns.
you'd probably say the same thing if you lived in australia but there they
wouldnt be as polite as in Canada and if youc alled them British theyd
probably kick the crap out of you for the insult.

I agree with you Ruth. I lived most of my life in US and few years back
moved to Canada. I feel much happier and relaxed here. In US, I was always
stressed out. Ever since I came to Canada, I don't feel depressed anymore.
So I guess it's up to the individual, where s/he finds happiness.

Dream suite,

I have said this all along, why are people heading for the big cities ??

Do people not know how they are needed in the smaller provinces ??

You will have to change your thinking a little, as there might not be the fancy malls , and the 16 screen movie houses, and you will have to wear winter boots, i'ts not like Australia I understand even though the sun is shineing kids dont always play outside, our kids do all year long, they camp fish swim in summer in winter they ski, snowboard go in the hottub they are out as I speak the weather is lovely.
what a great start a family could get. I live in a small town "IT IS FAB".
people think more about others than in Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, and yes there are jobs if you want to work !!!!!!!!!!!!!

And so what if you have to pay taxes, of cause we complain who in there right mind likes there govenment, i'ts our right

"Have a nice day"
p.s
We run a business our emploee's (9) are like our family they have been with us for 12 to 20 years, we have put food on the table for a lot of people, they all have they own there homes. and guess what I am from Liverpool came over with a friend had $125.00.00 in my pocket.

"And I have beauitiful Teeth"
