When I applied to update my residency card last year, we received a visit from 2 immigration officers at home without warning. They proceeded to grill my wife in a 'good cop/bad cop' scenario, even though it was me who had applied and wasn't at home. She offered to call me and let them speak to me on the phone but they declined. They also arrived with a large dossier on the pair of us.
At that point we'd lived, worked and paid taxes here for more than 10 years. So be prepared, it may not be a simple application and rubber stamp. |

However this is a new law just passed so we will see what difference it will make. They are all playing politics of course, and this is very public. It does say that they are not taking into account subsistence, housing etc and anon for UK nationals who apply under this scheme who are already registered. I went through all that 5 years ago. The only sections I am really interested in are residency and work permits. I have long enough until retirement that I have come to terms with never getting a pension. I will have everything paper related there however! |

I feel special I had 3 ladies show up and ask a few questions. Mainly about my plans here in Hungary and elsewhere and about income and work plans. They were very nice ladies and spoke perfect English. Then they ladies saw the doggies and talked another 30 minutes about the pups. This year when I renewed they didn't show up so I guess they don't always check every year. I did feel disappointed to not have company again. :) :) |

We had 2 show up in 2015, very pleasant, questions about our background & plans (easy bit as we are retired). Nothing since.

I think the "permanent residency" with 5 years on is also confusing as permanent surely means permanent, but this is Hungary.

I think that must be it. Does the permanent residency card have a photo on it? My original registration card has no ending date and no photo. I think having "Permanent Residence" is a different thing altogether?
