Hi Judy, I don't think anybody was really offended (no PM's in my inbox
)
I haven't even read the whole thread, just skimmed as a forum member contacted me to make sure I was okay and so I thought I best pop in to let folk know I'm still around.
I've probably offended more folk with my graphic photo of a local pig slaughter which is posted on my blog. We originally planned to raise our own meat but I do not think I could kill them and so we struck a deal with our neighbour to have half a pig from him. However, he was of the belief that if you are going to eat it, you should at least be present at the killing of it.

Well i shall add my tuppence worth! I agree whole heartedly with Polgardi,and disagree with Fidobsa,living with a full time hand spinner,my first thought on seeing a post headed Sheep was Fleece and Wool! Further more i think the OP would have to agree that lambs are just as nice to look at as goats and which ever you decide to eat if you are keeping them to this end then it really would best to see the process through to the end!At the end of the day you are still killing an animal to eat,no matter how nice a life it may have had on your land!

Ok, I know I said I was not going to add any more to this thread but.............
Just so that you know........... we have a very large veggie patch, we have our own fruit trees and fruit bushes, we have our own juicer, jam maker, I make my own bread, sew my own and Brians clothes, I try ( not very successfully) to knit, we will be having chickens, ducks,geese,goats and sheep.
While I too love all animals, I don't even mind spiders and snakes, I will be feeding the livestock so that they can feed us.
I would starve if I was veggie as I don't even like veg (another reason that I was an unsuccessful vegetarian!) that much and don't really enjoy pulses!
Each to their own, I would not dream of criticising another persons way of life, so please don't criticise mine. You don't know me or how I think as the saying goes" before you accuse, criticise or abuse, walk a mile in my shoes".

Hello,
As I made the original comment I feel it only apt to reply.
This forum is not about veggie vs non veggie and I apologise for my original comment, it was not meant to be divisive or accusing, although I can see why it may have been taken in that way.
In hindsight, which as we all know is a wonderful thing, it would have been better to keep my opinions to myself.
Having said that, I don't like the way that animals are seen as unequal to humans, after all we are all animals, and perhaps we all need to be a little bit more sensitive to others opinions etc. Myself included.

I for one would rather know where my meat was coming from rather than buying it from a supermarket and left wondering whether it has been pumped full of antibiotics, cruelly treated or the meat pumped full of water and preservatives. Having lived with vegetarian children for over four years, I respect their views and decisions however, I like meat and they respect that as my decision - we would never dictate to nor condemn one another.
Perhaps best to agree to disagree on this one and those who are sensitive to the subject of animal farming could avoid the thread?
