Default Reversing onto driveway

On quite a few occasions with our road clear I've reversed onto our driveway and suddenly another car is "bombing" down our road at speed. There's a small bump between the road and driveway so often I have to depress the accelerator a bit more to get it over. Often the other car gets quite close before I'm completely on the driveway. This morning similar happened and I'd had to depress the accelerator a bit more to ensure I was completely on our driveway. Not once did the other car slow down!
Had I not been completely on our driveway, maybe when I hadn't pressed the accelerator hard enough and car stopped, and this other car hit mine who would be at fault?

IMO the other car. If you are in the process of doing a manoeuvre and another car approaches after you have started then it is up to the other car to avoid you. You can't just plough into another car just because they are on the road doing a legitimate manoeuvre.

Thank you. There's actually been quite a few occasions when this has happened. I think next time I'll hit the hazard warning lights to be on the safe side! Worst case scenario I don't want to hit the accelerator too hard to avoid an oncoming car and end up hitting my garden gates, damaging my own car.
I think next time if I suddenly see a car "bombing" down my road I'll stay put until it stops but I doubt the driver will have the patience to wait!

I'm not sure what your defintition of "bombing" down the road is, but there's a 50 km and hour speed limit in residential areas like yours, so just by travelling too fast he would be at fault. In my part of Borsod there's always a heavy police presence so people do tend to drive through the villages at a sedate 45/48 kms an hour. If you're caught speeding you're subject to a hefty on the spot fine and possibly a breathalyser test!

It's normal driving through the villages for me to encounter cars driving into/reversing out of their driveways, and to me it's simply a matter of common courtesy that I either slow down or stop to let them complete the maneuver.

This is the speed limit around the residential area. Alot of drivers go well over this.

Report it to your Hivatal or if you have one your local police station. At Szirma not far from you they have speed cameras on the main road through the village, which registers how fast you're going.

I won't be very popular if it came out it was me!

This morning I witnessed a car overtaking another past two T-junctions.

All the more reason to report speeding! How would you feel if a car killed a child or an old person crossing the road?

If speeding in a particular location is a problem you should ask the council to ask the police to do some speed checks and at particular times/days if the problem is associated with e.g. a local factory tipping out etc.

We live in a 30 km/h zone but the only street where people follow the law is one with "sleeping policemen". They can't do this in the other streets because they are used by buses too.
So it's real fun for some people speeding down there with their radios blasting of course.
I often wonder that so many pedestrians use the street instead of the sidewalk, even with children and buggys with babies. Well, one reason might be that cars are often parked on the sidewalks with not enough spave for pedestrians.
I've never seen a speed check, only on the main through road but the times for this are well known and many drivers use their lights to wan others.
Of course not all Hungarians drive like this but it's a large percentage, especialy people with old big cars like Mercedes or BMW - which also stink and lose lots of engine oil.
That's why hy don't park in front of their houses but in front of the neighbours' houses to avoid those patches of engine oil on their ground.
End of rant ...

I, too, note many villagers, including those with small children walk on the road and not sidewalk. There's too many trip hazards.
I note most of the drivers who speed live the furthest away from the main road through the village. Also those living where the lake is. There's a stretch where's there's no housing and often drivers speed along it. As much as those drivers enjoy the privilege of living near the lake it seems they don't like the extra distance they have to drive to get onto the main road.

There's been three occasions when I nearly got hit crossing a traffic controlled cross roads and had priority. One of those drivers swerved all over the place for a short distance. He had aggressively turned into the road I was crossing without looking.

Sachina mentioned I should report the speeders but there's too many.

Atleast one driver today seeing a cat crossing the road slowed down and waited until it was on the other side of the road.

I had an email the other day or it might have been on social media that speeding fines will be increased. I forget the effective date.

Done. I have pinpointed two roads in MÃ lyi. On one road there's a nursery day care centre, community cenre, library and children's play area. On another road it's where those going towards or from the lake as though they are in a hurry to get somewhere. That road has been widened now so safer for pedestrians but being wider it might encourage more speeding.
