Hi all,
I have another house viewing trip in a few days time.
I'll be around for a couple of weeks and driving all over the country so does anyone have any favourite sight seeing / activities / nice walks anywhere in the country that they would recommend are worth checking out
Thankyou in advance!

Walks, views, monuments, interesting architecture, castles, towers etc
There are of course a hundred "top 10 things to do in Budapest" websites, but I tend to only find nice places outside of Budapest by accident, so just wanted to know if any locals had recommendations of places they like to visit for leisure

We've lived near Eger for more than 15 years and love the hills and mountains around here. Kékes Tető is worth a visit, as is Hollókő.
A drive from Eger through the Bükk to Lillafüred is a nice drive out. There are 2 routes, one of which takes you through Szilvásvárad. Stop off for a couple of hours, take the little train to the end of the valley and walk back down. It's really nice.
Having said all that, I've developed a new appreciation for flat, straight roads. Driving to and from work every day in winter through the forests and up up and down hills in snow and ice is not fun anymore. Hence, we've been house hunting down between Kecskemét and Szeged. You can get much more for your money, regarding land down there. Although it's flat, the landscape is broken up by woodland everywhere.

In the west end of the Balaton area
Keszthely stately home Helikon Kastélymúzeum Keszthely
Sumeg Var https://sumegvar.hu/en/historical-equestrian-games A bit touristy but good entertainment for an afternoon (and early evening if you go for the supper after the horse display)
Go for a swim, the Balaton is about 19 deg at the moment and free to enter the beaches. Or go to a spa Heviz or Sarvar, I prefer Sarvar. https://www.heviz.hu/en https://sarvarfurdo.hu/en
Sunday morning market at káptalantóti piac also known as Lilomkert Piac located in káptalantóti village.
Tapolca cave, a good exhibition and go around the cave in a boat. Booking online recommended. https://www.bfnp.hu/en/latogatohely-...apolca-tapolca
Also look at the Balaton-felvidéki Nemzeti Park website https://www.bfnp.hu/enAlso see

Check out Borsod-Abauj-Zemplen a region not well known by either British tourists or expats. Some beautiful places to visit and not as expensive as other parts of Hungary. It's proximity to Slovakia and Kosice Barca airport makes it easy to fly to and from the UK. There's an express train every 2 hours which runs from Budapest Kelti to Kosice Slovakia.

Lillafured- there's a chairlift and mountain park
Cserepvaralji cave dwellings in South Bukk mountains. I am not sure if the same as I visited quite some time ago, but definitely in Borsod Abauj Zemplen.
