Default Health Consultation

Good morning.

We have been here in Baranya county for just over a year and have settled in well and are enjoying life in our newly adopted country.

One thing we have had little success in is finding good health cover. My wife needs to consult a specialist regarding an ongoing stomach complaint. For minor problems we usually visit the local doctor with our friendly Hungarian translator. However, she is the village gossip and on this occasion my wife would prefer to speak one to one with a professional. I have searched online for medical centres in the Pecs, Szeksard areas who employ English or German speaking staff but wondered if anybody on here could provide a couple of pointers/recommendations based on personal experience. We both have TAJ cards.

Thank you,

Dickyb

Good luck, I have the same issue near Kaposvar, have been unable to find a Dr that speaks English and accepting patients. I have health insurance also. My insurance company had no recommendations for any Drs English or Hungarian speaking.

I can't make any recommendation because it is well away from where I live. Are you going private or on the health service? If it is on the health service then the route would normally be through your GP - you ask him to send you to the hospital, or to a specific doctor if that is appropriate. If you are going private then if you type Belgyógyász Pécs as the search you will get a list of doctors who specialise in internal medicine - that is the specialisation you need. If you send your chosen one an email in English I would expect you would get a reply either in English or Hungarian and go from there.

When I did the search I found (copied from his English part of his web site) "Dr Jozsef Czimmer, I am a specialis in gastroenterology and internal medicine, and I work at the Gastroenterology Ward of 1st Department of Medicine, University of Pécs". and the site further states that "It is my pleasure to help in English, as well" .https://czimmerjozsefdr.weebly.com/b...ozaacutes.html

If you are going on the health service then at the first contact ask if he does health service work or just private, if it is just private and you want NHS then ask him if he knows of an English speaking NHS Dr.

And https://foglaljorvost.hu/belgyogyasz/dr-lukacs-miklos/ Also had a site that says he speaks English French and German.

Wellcome on Dr. Király Institute of Gastroenterology's website - Dr. Király Gasztroenterológiai Intézet is another web site that has an English page that would imply an English service

There are others that came up on the search.

My health warning - These are not recommendations or otherwise of these Doctors, Just a suggestion for a starting point from what I found on the internet search defined above.

Hello Peter in Hungary,

Thank you very much for your, as always, sound advice.

We would initially like to go the NHS route. Since I posted this morning we have been recommended a local GP by a local business owner in the village whom we hold in high regard so we will arrange an appointment with the GP in the new year and take it from there.

I will also do some internet searching along the lines you suggest.

Thanks again.

Try Endomedix ... I think they have centres all over Hungary.

I booked my consultation with them in Miskolc by email and asked if there was an English speaking doctor, which there was.

Actually I've never had a problem because certainly at the main hospital in Miskolc the majority of doctors speak good English.

I need to see an oncologist regularly and need three monthly tests involving a variety of scans. In the first couple of years I tried to set this up locally in Veszprem but ran into problems and actually had a misdiagnosis. The reality is in my view that if you need an expert you have to go to Budapest. In the end I went and saw a professor privately at Duna Medical Center in BP and then arranged to see him in the state system. This means that I travel to BP for all my appointments and scans. The clinic is very busy but I trust him and he makes sure I have all the tests I need. It took me a while to get used to the ‘system’ but I feel safe now, Having said that if I need major treatment again I am not sure that I would have it here.
Healthcare has been my biggest worry here and is the only thing that would see me back in the UK.
You need to do your research and find an expert that you are happy with..
Good luck xx
