How did you guys find settling in? How long did it take? Do you miss the pubs, the chats in shops or with dog walkers? What was especially hard and what helped/could’ve helped? Anyone here that lives in Gyor?

Booze is cheaper here although your husbands UK choice might be triple cost here but there's plenty of good strong beers here.

You wouldn't hear my voice if I was using sign language .... how will you know if I'm conversing in BSL or HSL

After two years of searching for fekete decaf tea I gave up and ordered from British Store.

As long as you haven't got that pale, pinched, nose wrinkled in disgust / fear expression, I wouldn't know! 🤣

Family and Friends - my Hungarian wife regularly kept in touch with her family after she moved to UK over 30 years ago. When the Internet exploded and Skype was an option to converse face to face my wife was so happy. From then on she'd regularly chat to her mother or friends.
I understand your comments about family and friends being in Hungary. My wife went through the same. In UK she never had a best friend. They were all from same school and were tight knit! My wife seemed to be treated like an outsider! when they organised Ladies only day out .... they picked locations which made it awkward for her to get there. Obviously she was not included in the loop where they met up.

From advice on here I "dress" like a Hungarian. You wouldn't be able to distinguish whether I'm Hungarian or a Brit. I know enough HSL to pass myself off as a deaf Hungarian.

Is HSL as difficult as spoken Hungarian or has it been 'rationalised' ?

Good question. HSL follows the same grammatical structure as Hungarian spoken/written Language. HSL is more advanced than British sign language. That's a fact. In HSL there's a sign for every word. In BSL .... not so!
If I signed to you in sign language adhering to the grammatical structure of English that would be Sign Supported English. British sign language is a completely different language to Sign Supported English. Best explanation is ... it's not wanting to offend deaf people is it's back to front. Hey, we write left to right, some countries write right to left ... ged it?

So at least you are suffering with the Hungarian language the same as the rest of us.. Still if I 'spoke' HSL I would do it with an accent.....because I have 2 short fingers following a mishap with a circular saw !!.

If a deaf person is left handed they'd sign the other way round to a right handed deaf person.
