Re: GLM estate agents

Thank you for all the posts but I'm still no further forward, I'm looking for information on GLM estate agents, we are thinking of booking a trip with them to come over to see some of their properties by lake balaton. we saw a stand at a show last year in the UK and have been researching Hungary since, it looks lovely, the only thing is we don't know anything about the agents at all, hence the post. We want to make sure we're in safe hands so to speak.

Thanks again Gregg

Hi, I think your question has been answered by Polgardi and the link here, other than that, I don't know what else we could possibly tell you.

Thank you.
Looking at his post we're a bit nervous now and may come over by ourselves, hire a car and look around ourselves.
Any advice?

Gegg

After replying to your original post regarding GLM Internation Properties, I had a look at the GLM property website which I had not visited for quite some time and hope you will find what follows helpful as it is not simply anecdotal.

This link is for a house being sold by SP Ingatlaneroda and is priced at 6.8m HUF which is about £20000

http://www.spih.hu/ingatlan/elado-in...z-kethely-7832

This is the same house advertised on the GLM website but now has a price of £36000, which seems a bit greedy to me.

http://www.glmip.info/family_house_3..._category_id=0

I know this house as I did inspect it personally during my last visit to Hungary a couple of weeks ago despite being advised earlier that it was not particularly desirable by Rural Hungary who had taken a quick look at it on my behalf. It fact it was pretty awful and somewhere around £15000 would be about the right price for it.

You will also find that the abbreviated description supplied by GLM is very misleading. The description by GLM gives the impression that shopping malls, leisure centers, 4 star hotels, marinas and more are on your doorstep whereas the SP advertisement makes it clear that these facilities are in fact in towns several miles away. Misleading descriptions are also a feature of many of his other adverts.

I will probably be posting a third and I hope final posting on GLM covering some other points about GLM that I think you should take into consideration.

hi, I bought land on the north side of Balaton, with hind sight it appears to be very overpriced but I seem unable to make an accurate comparison with anything I have seen on the agents books etc. We bought the land through GLM, I found them to be helpful but as they have taken no interest in helping me to sell my land again several years later, my view of them is changing.

Gregg,

You could always holiday around the Balaton and start the search independently? The hotels (all types) or rooms for the night are very good value. I recommend you drive around the countryside north of the Balaon not close to the shore. West of the Balaton is also good. It is very easy to holiday independently and search out villages or towns you like. Fly to Budapest, hire a car at the airport (the most expensive part) and drive down. You will easily find accomodation without pre-booking. It is worth the effort as it's a lovely part of the world.

Regards

John

Or fly to Zagreb, Easyjet, Wizzair and British Airways fly from the UK, car hire, including cross border insurance, starts from £100 for 7 days and it's only an hours drive to the Hungarian border

Re: GLM estate agents

Like many on here, I have friends who have had problems with GLM, ranging from the small to quite serious, though many relate to dealings with their staff and not the brothers who own the company naturally though, the latter must bear some accountability. So I am definitely not their greatest fan.
That said, in fairness, I believe all vested interests must be stated in order for this thread to remain.

Russell: you were the first person on this thread to post a negative comment regarding GLM. As your daughter Cara and her husband Mark announced on this forum that they aim to be market leaders in selling European property, it is possible that your comments could be construed as as a deliberate attempt to ruin the reputation of one of their biggest competitors. Especially considering that you yourself have had no personal experience of buying property through GLM. Furthermore, despite knowing about the forum for several months , these are the first posts you have felt compelled to write. I 'm sure you can understand how some might question the motivation behind such postings.

Further, I would like to point out that I did not view a property on your behalf, my family and I drove past it as we were meeting friends for dinner and the property was in their village. I just wish to make that point perfectly clear.

Were coming over in May still to look at properties.

I have made contact with a couple of Hungarian Agents, who have sent over pictures and info as requested no problems, nearer the time we will take a day out with them for viewing.

With the advent of Google Earth, we can view some small villages on the west side of Balaton, which makes it easier for us to drive to from the UK.

Don't give up, hope you and I achieve our dreams soon.....

For good reason, let's keep this one on topic. Gegg or Gregg, perhaps you could start another thread where people could give you advice.
Thank you
