My sister (German, married to an Englishman, living near Gatwick) has had implants done while living in Budapest and every few years she goes back - to the same dentist.
You have to find someone you trust ...
Our dentist also moved from Hévíz to Bp - maybe because here there are too many?

There is a fair amount of 'health tourism' here from dental work to physiotherapy and spa treatments or hip or knee replacements. There should be no problem searching on line to find a clinic - getting a personal recommendation may prove more difficult.

OP - will PM you. Not my dentist (I don't do dentists!) but highly recommended by our Hungarian teacher. In Budapest btw.

Try this website: https://www.whatclinic.com/dentists/hungary/miskolc

As you'll see it gives a list of dental surgeons in various Hungarian cities.

Last year I paid 40 000 ft for two consultations, one Xray and two fillings. Very reasonable considering 4 years in the UK a small filling cost me £126!

If you are a member of the (Hungarian) NHS x-rays and fillings (and consultations attached to same) are included in the price of the NI payments i.e. free at the point of use.

Yes I know that, but as one of the fillings was for a front tooth I decided to go privately because the filling material a private dentist uses is a superior quality to the one used under the NHS.

Understand.....quite a lot of dentists and doctors will split the service, labour on the NHS and pay for the better materials, or consultation on the NHS and MRI / CT scan privately to avoid the wait followed by treatment on the NHS.

Sorry can you clarify what this means. Are you saying x-rays and fillings are free if you are a resident with a TAJ Card? Or am I misunderstanding?

Yes - so are extractions and treatment for abscess. Antibiotics come under the same payment system as used by the GP. Other things are chargeable although sometimes descaling is not charged. Dentist usually have a list of charges posted.

I didn't know this. I might try to find the courage to go back to mine. It may alleviate some of the financial pain at least.

Thanks for the info.

Are there specific 'state' dentists for this?

Your council will know who is the 'NHS' dentist in the area (or ask your neighbours). When you first go to him/her ask that they take you on as a NHS patient and take your TAJ card.

Hi Mule Deer

I had implants done in Budapest about a year ago and can recommend a dentist if you like. I read a lot of horror stories beforehand but this dentist came with a recommendation from a trusted friend. The surgery was modern, the dentist very professional and she did a great job at a price much less than the UK. I have a place in Budapest so it meant I could stay there for free and I was travelling from Germany so airfares were cheap. I had several visits for the implants, maybe 4 or 5 and there were lapses whilst the surgery healed. The whole process took about 6 months but this included the initial consultation and several replacement fillings at the end.

I would do it again as it saved me thousands.
