Bratislava Flights

I think some expats have mentioned using Vienna airport but it looks like Bratislava is also worth considering. For me the advantage is that Ryanair flies from Birmingham to there and I currently have use of a house near Birmingham.
Has anybody here tried Slovakia flights?

Connections to and from Bratislava can be a nightmare. Many involve an overnight stay so don't really work out any cheaper and journey time is then longer.

I'm hoping to get Vic at Balatonfoldvar to drive me to the airport in my van and then take the van back to his place.
He owes me a favour now I've mended a few things for him, including his BMW K100 motorbike.

Talking of mending things.... Where is the best place to get a motor for dishwashers as I think that is what has gone, realise it will be in the UK but that's okay.
Yes Anonimouse, I think up your way is good for Bratislava. I know when we looked at connections I could have gotten hubby on a train to a town between you and Zalegerszeg but would have to have collected him as there was no onward connection at that time. It's the same scenario with Graz as there are only one or two trains with the last one leaving mid afternoon - the flight didn't land until half an hour after the last train left. Very frustrating.
These were London flights though so it might be different for other routes.

I fly Liverpool - Bratislava fairly often, with Ryanair.
When we arrive in Bratislava we get off the plane and onto a bus which then takes us all of 30 yards to the arrivals entrance.
Very intriguing.

It's the same at Graz - except - anytime we have flown, you only get the bus if you are flying priority. The rest of us have to walk the 50 yards

The Bratislava flight time was not very convenient so I did Wizzair Budapest to Luton when I flew home on Saturday. Also I found the Ryanair website very user-hostile. I had just filled in everything and it came up with a message, "Session Timed Out" so I had to start again from scratch. Before I got all the form filled in again the librarian at Balatonfoldvar kicked us out of the library, so I lost my internet connection.
I had to go back to the library the next day to try again to book a flight but this time I didn't bother trying Ryanair.

Sorry to hear about your bad time with the Ryanair website. I use Ryanair much more than the other low cost airlines for the simple reason that they are invariably MUCH cheaper for me than the others.
I may have the advantage that I can travel at any time, and therefore I look on the site to find the cheapest flights and book accordingly.
I fly to various places and my most expensive flights were just over £60, and the cheapest were £0, with most costing between £10 - £30 (all return costs)
There haven't been any free ones for about 18 months and I think that their prices have been rising lately, so perhaps I will have to be prepared to pay a little more in the future, but still expect them to cost much less than the others (all things being equal).

It looks like they all charge about £100 if you book it only a couple of days before you fly. In my case I had originally booked a flight for 23rd March but didn't take it as the legalities were not complete on my house purchase. I was advised that it costs as much to change the flight date as to book a new flight but in any case I would not have known before 23rd how long to postpone it.

As an alternative, Zagreb might be OK for you. The M7 motorway goes all the way to Zagreb, The only problem we have had is slow border checks at Letenye.

Yes, we have used Zagreb several times. Bonus is there are a couple of hire companies that do not charge extra for cross border hire which can actually work out cheaper than hiring from Budapest. As we are slightly to the west, it is also quicker for us to drive to Zagreb
