I am really sad to see people taking such offence that they want to deregister and leave. we all have comments at times that others may disagree with and on occasions find some posts not always to our point of view. To my mind that is the benefit of such a forum and why I welcome the exchange of views it gives. I do think we are all in such a plight that it has made us jumpy and even bitter about some things but surely we can rise above that and continue to contribute for each others benefit.

I also agree with erinsgirl, I was trying to put the same into words last night or I should say early this morning but was too tired to think straight. (was just back from a day in London culminating in the George Thoroughgood concert at the Royal Albert Hall)

J5 would look good in that frock - especially with his Docs.

Sorry All!

I didn't mean to come across as gloating or rubbing anyone's noses at all! I only meant to ask Who on here spends all their time in Goa, and does not make frequent trips back to the UK. I.e. who has MOVED their whole lives to Goa and if so how that is for them.

Once I go, 2 months, 20 days and counting, I will not be coming back unless something way beyond my control happens! I intend to fully integrate with the Goan way of life and not go out in the mid-day sun, not shop at Newtons, and not wear sleveless tops to church :D

All I wondered is how many of you fellow forum members have done the same and if so what your experiences are? It was not my intention to 'diss' anyone else who by no fault of their own doesn't qualify for a visa to live in Goa full time.

Sorry if I came across as insensitive to other's visa troubles. That was really not the intention of my post, only to establish who among you live in Goa full time and if so how is it?!

Thanks

Julia x

Unfortunately Julia none of us can live in our Goan homes without coming back to renew visa's, even if we have our homes registered in our name, unless of course, we are PIO's or married to one.
If you are paying to return to UK for a visa run, you may as well stay a month or two and visit family and friends.

I also think it would be interesting to know roughly how long 'expats' stay in Goa - so I'm going to try and set up a Poll -
"How long do you stay"

Well got admit Julia you did come across as a pillock, if we all married an Indian not a problen with PIO. But we didn't, we came across with our European partners to settle in a land we loved on holiday and seriously thought we could settle here. But alas our DREAMS were folded, because of the beaucracy here. (sos about spelling, can't find spell check) If we don't get the visa we want on around the 16th June, we are off to othert places. And got to admit bloody upset.

Hi all

Something has been bothering me for a while. I have only been an active member of this forum for one month, but already I have gleaned that the majority of people return to the UK for the UK summer months / Goa Monsoon!

If you travel so frequently between the two countries, and still have properties and responsibilities in the UK, are you really ex-pats?

I, for example, am leaving the UK in August this year, going to Goa, and not returning! I'm transferring my whole life (kids schooling, property ownership, TV watching) to Goa wholesale!

We are commissioning a 40ft sea container and shipping all our worldly posessions to Goa! All trace of our life in the UK will be forgotten when the ship leaves the dock.

I class myself as a genuine ex-pat (someone who will be spending my whole time in my adopted country and NOT returning 'home', even when times are tough!)

So! Are you all genuine ex-pats? Do you spend all year in Goa?

I will be spending ALL year in Goa from now on, and want to know if you will do likewise?

Julia

(SNIP) Just reading what you have written is a load of rubbiish being non Indian. Uz having British passports, no PIO can't do that
We have to return for visa's, every year. Will love to meet you with my friends and hav a real discussion in person. I hav to go back on the 15th june, BECAUSE MY VISA RUNS OUT ON THE 16TH JUNE. Hopefully I return on the 8th July with a 1yr x visa. Got to admit Julia I don't believe you know what you are talking about

So far the longest I have stayed is 8 weeks but as I am retiring shortly I am planning to stay for almost 6 months from October. Providing I get a visa!

Usually September until late April but that looks like a thing of the past now that we can only get 180 days at a time. Not going to pay to go out of India in Feb to then return until April - will go and stay somewhere else.

Sorry all! Was not my intention to be a pillock! Sorry if I came across in that way :) I despise pillocks and anyone who claims to 'think outside the box' or 'reinvent the wheel' or any other management speak!

I've come across as a bit of a pillock / twat and sorry if I have offended anyone!! Didn't mean to and whole apologies! I know I'm in a privilaged position having a PIO and being able to live full-time in Goa.

Our (UK) immigration rules are not as strict as the Indian ones, and yet UK immigrant Indians still complain about unfair treatment!

I move to Goa in 1 1/2 months now!! I'm feeling aprihensive and getting cold feet! I will presumably have warmer feet (literally!) once I'm in Goa but still cold at the moment. I have now resigned from my job which I have been in for the last 7 years and the reality of leaving becoming ever more real to me!

Love the Pillock! J*
