Not a day goes past in Goa without something happening to crush my dreams and aspirations of the place i call home.
Yesterday I thought war had broken out but it was only loads of taxi drivers stopping others going about their daily business, most taxi drivers are on a salary here,so dont care if they work or not, but the few that own their own taxi have to work to survive. Striking about tourists being overcharged by tour operators what a joke!!! forcing tourists out of taxi's.
Being constantly harassed by sellers, beggers when you go anywhere, whether shopping to the beach or to a bar/rest, YES it added to the fun of the place once upon a time but now they are very intimidating and in your face.
More and more cases of assaults, burglaries, are in the papers all the time and now the Mumbai attacks, the forces here are not trained by any means to deal with such acts of terrorism of any scale, lets face it folks they cant even direct traffic so what chance to we stand, its saturday night and like a ghost town in Arpora the place should be buzzing, i for one will not be going to the saturday nite market god forbid anything happens id rather take my chances in a local restaurant/bar where i can watch all around me whats going on.

Hi,
Just had a phone call from Kan-conned, he is in the South, and was going to see his Notary tomorrow in Panjim at 9.00 and then come up to the North to visit us for the day.
He told us that he cannot leave Calvissom,(or however it is spelt) even on a scooter, all the roads are blockaded by taxi's, they will only let people in from the airport.
20 taxi drivers have been arrested, and the taxis are stoning coach parties (even those who booked in UK) stopping them going on trips eg. elephants etc.
Quite a few of the shacks have closed, and people are ....... guess what staying in their five star hotels. He said it is very frightening, and he is totally ...........off :curse:
What is the matter with these people don't they want to earn a living and have tourists come to beautiful Goa it is going to be a long hard monsoon for them carrying on like this

Sorry i have no sympathy for any of these taxi drivers, I for one would nowadays would rather travel in a group than go alone in a taxi, if you are a first timer in India it now seems the safest way to travel,
But its like anything here you try to start anything up and make it a success they get jealous and think they can do better so then ojections are put in your way to make your life a misery.
There are far to many taxis anyway and once again the government are to blame in issuing to many licenses to taxis.
I hate going anywhere at the moment as you get harrassed everywhere by taxi drivers, beggers and sellers.
I have only been to the beach twice as i got so fed up with all the sellers every 2 seconds and ended up being very rude to them which is not in my nature, where's the pleasure and relaxation in that.
Lets hope KC manages to get up north soon regards to him.

I don't know what the real figures are but various items in last week's papers said there are around 20,000 tourists here at the moment, and at least 5,000 taxis. On that basis each taxi would be lucky to get one fare a day!
Allegedly a lot of the taxi's were bought with the licence plus deposit being paid by politicians in exchange for votes (you may think that but I couldn't possibly comment!)
"home roost chickens" - make a well known phrase or saying.

The only paradise to be found now is "by the dashboard light", or Meatloaf thinks it still is !

This is what Enfield is referring to
http://www.lyricsfreak.com/m/meat+lo..._20091297.html
Here are the words - thank goodness you can't hear me or my OH sing them in the shower

Enfield - are you still getting your newspapers from "mister happy" at Sai - We had been here for 5 weeks this season before he even spoke to us and we have been using his shop for about 7 years. The girl who worked in there now works for "Rangila" (sp) the dress shop which is down the lane opposite the post office street. We speak to her often and she is so happy working there away from this miserable so and so.

I had great joy today, having taken a pal's bike back from Matthew Braganza Hospital where he spent a couple of days,to his home at Baga.
The reason for this being that I was approached only 4 times by Taxi Drivers (who were supposed to be on strike again) with the noun that becomes a question "Taxi ?".My pleasure came from responding "No,I'm on strike today"
perverse I know , but sometimes you feel that way!
Yes, I shall be collecting my Navhind and Herald from Sai Communications later on.Very pleasant girl ,with a lovely smile ,wondered where she'd got to.
