What a terrible way to do business.

It is like one choosing something available in a shop, paying for it, then only being given half of what you paid for.

If the 2 year visa is not on offer to you this should be made clear to you and they should not taken your money in the first place.

Lets hope The Department of Trading Standards read this and they go and sound it out.

You are right it is a dreadful way to do business but they are not alone, WH Smith sell gift tokens which if the money is not spent within 2 years they cancel it and some phone sims if you do not use the top up within a month you loose it I think it is theft but it must be legal otherwise they would have been stopped doing it before now..

Last year we paid for a two year Business visa and were also only issued with a one year one, with no refund.

This year we were going to apply for another two year, but we were told, that unless you have ,or work for a Uk company which is working with an Indian Business you can only apply for a one year visa.

At least it was explained to us in plain English,so no complaints.

One would think that the VFS would put something clearly on their website as to what visa time scales can be had and under what conditions - but then again, it's another way to get money out of the Brits for nothing, so why would they bother.
Last year I only got half the time I had applied for and that was on tourist visa. Then I spoke to another Brit (who is a heroin addict and it is obvious that he is from the state of him) and on going to the VFS office, he was offered a 1 year visa when he had applied for a 6 month one. I'm beginning to wonder what kind of tourist Goa wants.

Strange stuff but I still want to go there !

Agree, it should if not already, be set out on what is available.

The VFS should be operating under these terms, however it appears that they are not when reading what has been reported on this forum.

My friend who requested a 12 month tourist visa for her partner was refused and was told it was because her partner had not had a 12 month tourist visa before. This has prevented them returning to Goa following doing some touring. What a shame, one would think Goa would want all the tourists they can get and yet they are preventing entry not granting the visas for the duration required to accommodate their visitors.

If does appear to be somewhat of a "lucky dip" on what visas are given out and offered.

Very strange!

Did you keep a note of the special delivery reference? if so you can check the post office tracking system. I completed our forms on line and took them to Victoria on Tuesday. I have checked on the VFS tracking system and they are ready for collection so I will be going for them next Tuesday.

Hi Goacrazy,
the evening we got back from birmingham they rang to say my husbands signature was not exactly the same as on his passport so he had to fax a letter stating that it was not always the same, then a message came up on the tracker for us to ring them{at premium rate} we rang twice but nobody knew why we had to ring. then next day we were told we needed copies of our accounts?????? now it just states application in progress.
We are in limbo and the company my husband works for is not happy that he has not got his passport to do his job:(

Umm!! so they are starting this old flannel again with accounts being submitted with visa etc.It will be RBI approval again next,we have been asked for all this in the past, now I just throw the lot at them when I apply.A folder that weights 3kg. What astounds me is none of what they are asking for as an significance on getting a visa .

They will not be concerned in the least that your husband has other business trips.I remember in 2007 trying to explain this to them, when I was sweating about getting my passports back for a business trip that was booked to Japan.I was told this is none of our conccern. It was the year before they went over to the outsourcing.I got my Passport back two days before I was about to fly.I lost over a weeks sleep and my boss said if I didn't make the trip to Japan I would be on a disciplinary.Bosses don't understand or really care about the problems we have with getting an Indian visa.

It don't get any easier either.Last year they took our money for a two year business visa and gave us a 1year,no refund.I still have the receipt. This is one thing I shall not miss when I get out of Goa "the visa run" I hate it,I'm wound up like a spring a week before I even apply.
Good luck
I'm sure it will arrive next week
Keep the faith
With a bit of luck they will giving visa away because no one will want to go to India to much hassle
GC;)

Bit pricey but its Xmas. But you dont have to put up with the greedy grasping hands and crap beer and mountains of garbage. If as you said things have changed, then i think you have sold us the next Winter season. Thank you very much.PS. I have fished in that river too. Only caught a tiddler though. Are there any big uns in there ?

Sorry for delay, been fishing! yes lots of nice catches and free dinners. Very tasty. Glad you are thinking of returning to Sri Lanka it really does deserve a chance. Sure it is a little more expensive but not if you stay out of the touristy bits and it is so nice not to be ripped of and to live somewhere clean

prestonjohn - don't think you will be on your own either - we have been looking at Hikkaduwa but not much info about the price of long term rentals. Maybe take a trip out there later in the season.

tuvalu - you will have to become the official Sri Lanka bod :D
