If you go Australia you can get a five year visa no problems
In fact they ask you if you would like a five year with know leaving India after 180 days
The thing that you need to is that you do have the reg at the FRO within 14 days of your arrival back in Goa and then you get a pink book (residents book)
If you do not reg with the FRO you will be fine of Rs 2,000/- and then you have to do a lot of running around to pay the fine trips to the home office ect
Now you cant register for 5 months unless it has just changed. Then you dont have to do that if you leave the country within six months. Will check it out when we go back in 3 weeks

It's still the same,we tried to register last October and the Fro official told us to come back nearer the 180 day limit. As it happens we decided to go to Thailand for a week,as the paperwork required to register was ridiculous.

A friend went to renew her visa recently and was told that no 5 year X visas have been issued since 2004 when she got her last one and no 1 year X visas have been issued since August 1st this year. She had taken all her documents (deeds etc) and tried arguing it out with the Supervisor but to no effect. She is now waiting to see what kind of visa she gets.

... and the pink book is now just an A4 sheet unless you're a PIO.

No one in the last year or more (?), other than Steve Benaulim & one other on India Mike (jb something or other) that post on internet Goa forums seem to have got a visa WITHOUT the 180 day restriction.

If they do not have the 180 day restriction it might be worth a trip to Oz.

OK, I should have said 'those who applied in the UK'. . . . . . . . . . Plenty people have posted on here & I.M. about applying in Sri Lanka & Thailand, then basically being told 'go back to your own country' unless they wanted a 3 month single entry tourist visa.

As for a trip to Oz to avoid the 180 day restriction - it's a bloody long way! (from the UK! not as bad from India) Not bad if the trip has another REAL purpose, but for the sake of avoiding the 180 day restriction, I'd have to REALLY need to avoid the 180 day restriction to put myself through that.

Yes, but I've never been to Oz and we have relatives we can visit and since I read A Town Like Alice many moons ago I have wanted to go there and its cheaper from India as you say.
