Enclose a covering letter saying that you understand that you are now permitted to apply for x visas. E mail Hayes vfs and ask them what docs you need. They have always been very helpful. I was only allowed to apply for a 6 month!! Good luck/ |

Thank you for your reply msj5 and dreadsoc.
The interview was very pleasant, the lady was more than helpful and she did not take any money until it was decided which visa we may get. We handed over every piece of evidence that we have, property deeds in India as well as some pre-paid commitment, electric and telephone etc. They asked for a duplicate copy of every thing even the reverse side of the pan card and marriage certificate. All the papers were sent to the consulate in Birmingham then they wanted a covering letter as to why we wished to stay more than 6 months. Two weeks later we have been told to re apply for an extended tourist visa only. Are well it is raining again so we have nothing better to do than to spend a couple of hours going to Birmingham and back.:eek: Good luck to anyone else that only has property with deeds and wants a 12 month x please let us know how you got on. Thanks |

They would seem to be breaking their own rules! par for the course.
How do they continually get away with it? Because no-one higher up cares. |

Thanks Just trying to put some logistics together.....how long do you normally spend in Goa? Birmingham appears to be the only place where you can actually get to see anyone at the HCI. I recently heard of another property owner who was refused an X visa via Birmingham but had 1 the previous time! No logic to it really I guess. I was wondering if they look at your passport ... as in my case ...and see I only spend the minimum time necessary out of the country! ie out on day 179 and back after(as the case was) 62 days but now stipulated on the visa as 60! As i spend more than 180 days a year in the country and have a permanent residence does it make it a difference? Who knows? As per there own regulations vis a vie visas...".those who have a residence in India are not entitled to apply for a tourist visa". |

when I applied I copied the list of documents requested for X visas for property owners and numbered my submissions accordingly. The two difficult items were the RBI letter and the proof of Registration - I have posted an anonymised version of the standard RBI letter as well as the RBI FAQ where they say they are not the authorising agency. If you had your deeds registered just put a post-it note pointing to the registrar's stamp on the copy of your deeds. I realise that pushing for an X visa is a lot of effort, sorry* but if you don't do it you are weakening everyone else's case and you are technically breaking the law going on a T visa. (* I mean that) thanks - AndyD 8-)₹ P.S. when next in Goa apply for an Aadhar card. |

You could take a copy of the MHA FAQ and point out firmly that you are not entitled to a tourist visa: "As per the extant instructions of the Government of India, a Tourist Visa can only be granted to a foreigner who does not have a residence or occupation in India"

I do totally agree with you and we have to tell the HCI what we are entitled to abiding by their rules! don`t be humble ...be firm.. I read all the websites - it talks about Indian residents. I applied in Panjim - the staff weren't sure but asked if I had any of the listed docs - I did; PAN Card and driving licence, so they took my application. OH had PAN card but no DL so she was refused. According to their tracking site my card has been approved and delivered to my house. I should now be able to sponsor OH. AndyD 8-)₹ |
