Happy holiday!

Finally found a Jet flight on 1st November for under £600.00, booked directly with Jet, they took the booking, verified our passports, reserved our seats and confirmed everything by e-mail without me having to call them back. I usually use Southall Travel but they were so expensive, the flight I booked was on their web site at £1900.00 each, what is going on with them?

I always book with Jet direct online and get air miles. Once Jet were overbooked and were offering £400 per person plus hotel expenses for the night. Almost covered the fare.

hello everone,

I am a new member ,so bear with me if I do anything with is not quite right. Please put me right when I do and hopefully I 'll soon get the hang of things.

I am in the same position as many of you; house owner, been through all the visa problems from having 5 year X's to 1 year tourist ones, checked on by the Enforcement Office and now having to leave my home for the 2 months period every time.

Being refused every year ,this year i did not even try to go the xvisa route at Birmingham and now have 1 year multiple tourist(which i got without any problem)

I have been following your forum for a while from the sidelines, not wanting to draw attention to myself (frightened by stepping out of line in Goa!!!) but now thought it was time to join.

I read with interest what happened to one of your members in Birmingham ( coming out with 2 Xvisas after insisting to put in his application with all the documents) and applaud his insistence.
Ii am delighted to hear he managed to get an xvisa and also agree with other comments made not to let this opportunity pass, but to start applying for these available xvisas.
Like I said , I now have a T visa and wont be able to join this queue of applicants till next year, but I will certainly do so when the time comes .

The list of required paperwork seems to me the usual paperwork , which I have always already taken with me to the visa place, the only thing that was extra was this letter from the RBI, which started with something like....'persons resident as per FEMA have general permission....."

Is this letter the permission to buy A PROPERTY letter or a diiferent one?
If it is a diiferent one, how do you get one of those?.

I have so many questions , but dont want to confuse you by asking them all at once , so I will sent this and see what reaction I get.

Speak soon

Hi Rob,

Welcome to BE, will let Andy answer you query on the visa.
It is ridiculous that we have to jump through hoops yet again to get x visa's when we took all our documents, registered deeds etc together with photo copies of everything in a folder to obtain our first five year visa - so somewhere in the great HCI they have all our details and a file with all the relative documents they need just to issue us a new Visa. :banghead::banghead:

Please ask any questions you need answers too on the relative thread.

that's the one; plus copy of deeds ( a copy of a notarised copy seems to be fine), for the Registrar requirement I used a copy of the registrar's receipt, if your deeds are registered I would just mention in the covering letter that the deeds themselves are proof of registration.

I have just received my passport back from VFS with a 'VAF' stamp on but no visa. Have checked website and all it says is that if you have this it does not mean you have necessarily been refused a visa but then what?) I have been granted business visas since 2002 so don't know what's going on. Only difference this time is that I have a new passport as the other would have expired before the visa. So I sent scanned copies of all my previous visas from old passport with the application. I then was asked to send my old passport as well which I duly did. Now with only a week to go till I am due to fly, I have received the passports but no explanation, no visa and no idea whether it's been refused or not. What to do next is the question please? (Of course it is now Saturday, so can't contact anyone till Monday - BUT WHO AND WILL I GET ANYWHERE?)

If you sent your application to Hayes then try emailing Gaurav Marchant
[email protected] .....ask him to call you to explain what is happening!

Apart from this I don`t know. The helpline is expensive and i`ve only ever found it un helpful!

Wish you all the best but think you may be cancelling your flight!

There is a separate application form (not on line as far as I know) for transferring an ongoing visa to a new passport, perhaps they are waiting for you to fill this in? They should have explained. I previously did this some years ago so the system may have changed.

from VFS Global site:
What does a V.A.F stamp mean?
If you have received your passport back with a stamp marked V.A.F. it does not mean that your visa has been refused. Visa Applied For (V.A.F) is stamped on your passport when the High Commission or it’s Consulate Generals require further processing on your application.

Would appear that you need to contact them to find out what additional information they require.

We had problems recently with my husbands application. I always track our progress on line and his showed that they required extra information. We e-mailed them and eventually after providing then with a letter he git his visa. I would imagine they have returned your passport because they did not hear from you .

We are hoping its a typical cock-up as we were asked by email to send the old passport which we did immediately by Special Delivery. We were not asked for any other supporting documents and tracking kept saying 'being processed'. We can only hope that some VFS person has sent both passports back to us in error instead of to High Commission. Problem is getting through to someone who will find out the problem - nightmare. As we fly on 6th I suspect it will take a miracle to get them to sort it in 5 working days - costing us a grand in lost flights. Any suggestions?

The VAF stamp is put on by the High Commission, not VFS, so it has been there already.

If you have a look on IndiaMike and do a search on VAF you will find some experiences, but they, unfortunately, not good. The general concensus - despite the quoted wording from the VFS site- is that it is a refusal, for whatever reason.

You refer to your Business visas since 2002? Are you actually engaged in a business?
If not, this could be the reason maybe?

How can you lose a grand in flights? jet airways charge £100 to change plus extra if flight has increased in price and £150 to cancel!!!

I'm afraid VAF almost certainly means 'referred to Delhi'. Have you emailed VFS? (Don't bother with the premium rate tel. no. - I hear it's a call centre and they know nothing).
Talk to your travel agent / airline.

There are 2 of us, booked with Quatar and supposed to be going next Sunday. We don't know when or even whether my visa is going to be issued so cannot 'change' flight dates as we don't know when! We will have to cancel if we hear nothing in the next 5 days which is highly unlikely. Quatar do not have a cancellation charge like you suggest and will not give price of flights back but we may get the 'taxes'. Insurance will not cover this either.

Reply about Business visa - yes, we have a partnership with an Indian company which has been since 2002 but our family business has been trading with India for 20 years. However, issues such as this are becoming ridiculous and they make it as difficult as possible with red-tape etc to carry out any business - not to mention battling corruption at every turn - so we are seriously considering getting out of India altogether. However, to do this we would need to get visas anyway!

Re: Visa help.

I know Jet and Kingfisher, on the tickets I have bought in the past, do not allow a change of outward departure. But they do normally allow a change of return flight for no fee, possibly a small charge if the flights are more expensive. It does depend on the tickets and the fare class you are in, and therefore probably the price you paid as well.

I normally go through Southall Travel and insist on my 46k luggage allowance, one free change of return flight and they have always (so far) come up with the goods.

You may have to cancel and lose the outbound ticket (but SHOULD be able to claim back the tax & fuel surcharge) but you MAY be able to adjust / change the inbound flight for a small fee?

That way your extra expense will be to buy a one way ticket into India. Just a thought:sneaky:

Thanks for the thought. We've contacted Qatar. It would be £100 each plus difference in fare which works out at an extra £450 each with fares as they are now! Also - we don't have an alternative date to fly as we are at the mercy of HCI (VFS can't do anything)as we have been 'referred' for confirmation and no time frame will be given. So cancellation is the cheapest option as we will get taxes back at least. India have got to get this mess sorted out instead of advertising for Foreign inward investment and Business opportunities! What rubbish. Opportunities for them to extort money out of foreigners, get them to set up business links and then make them give up out of frustration. Trade cannot be carried out sucessfully with stupid, needless obstacles like this.

VFS do advise you not to book flights until you have your visa!!!!

I learnt the hard way and had to cancel my flight with Jet!!cost me £150.
But to re book the flight 2 weeks later cost me the refund Jet gave me as flights had dropped in price!!!!

Hope all works out for you!!

No wonder tourist figures are dropping, how can you get a visa for a holiday you may take 8 months later? We often used to book holiday 12 months in advance your visa would expire before you even went.

Yeh by all means book your flights 12 months in advance(if that is possible) but apply for your visa a month before travel.

A bit different if you are trying to live here and are applying in your 2 month gap and want to get back to your home and dogs!!!

My application was sent on 8th October ready to travel on 6th November - enough time would you think? - And if processed early would waste precious weeks of visa anyway - devil and deep blue sea?
We used to get a 2 year business visas then without warning - and of course no refund - this was cut to 1 year. To expect a company to renew visas every 12 months and be without their passport for 3 weeks at a time when they may need to travel elsewhere is ludicrous. (and as a northern company can't just waste time 'popping' down to Hayes when business visas have to be processed by HCI London anyway.)In business you have to book things in advance to fit your schedule as well as take advantage of cheaper fares, but as in my case - you cannot apply for a new visa to cover your trip if your other is still current but runs out during your stay, without a myriad of paperwork and your great grandmother's shoe size! It's just a minefield of stupid, pointless typical Indian rot. They have an incredible knack of making the simplest things complicated and taking 100 times longer to complete than everyone else. Do I sound bitter? I am! I will now have to reschedule my trip which messes up my counterpart in India also because of some nimby who has decided suddenly I'm a security risk.( ps.- I am usually a really calm, happy person but have been driven to rant by this frustrating situation where I am banging my head against a brick wall getting no answers from the powers that be and have no control over any of it!) Heard today of a masseur/physio who contacted 1 of my friends wanting a lead in for an Employment visa...they couldn`t and didnt want to help...put him in touch with some friends who are well established in Chowgule college as Chiropractor and massure ....English couple who have trouble getting business visa themselves!!!

Apparently a letter on headed paper from friends involved at Chowgule has got him a business visa!!!
