well since the registers are (illegally) closed this is all moot BUT
residency is defined by FEMA and is a question of fact - you are either resident or you aren't. Their FAQ make it clear that there is no organisation or authority that will 'give' you resident status or authenticate it.
The FEMA rules that define resident status do not mention visas or types of visas nor do they specify that the qualify period must be straight through.
btw who is "not registering companies"? (companies' what?)

Hi All

Well we're here in Goa and loving every moment . My clever husband has managed to get us connected to the internet via mobile phone today, and as you can see all working very well.

The new supermarket opposite Sea Shell is not yet open, but have noticed a new cafe shop same chain as the one at Mumbai airport.

The weather is about 30 in the daytime and about 27 at night, we are managing to sleep without the A/C.

Catpat123 will try and take photo of your apartment tomorrow and see if we can send via internet mobile, so keep fingers crossed.

Regards

Hi Kinrara,

Great to hear from you and that you've arrived safely in Goa. I'm glad all is going well and that you've already got connected to the internet. It sounds hotter than i thought it'd be at this time.

How was the flight btw on Jet Airways? I've been trying to ring em for days but they are constantly engaged and i can't find an email adress on their site & the enquiry form wouldn't work so i was just wondering if you know how strict they are with the hand luggage weight allowance (cuz i don't want risk putting my important property documents that weigh a ton, in my check-in luggage), so i'm hoping they'll be flexible with it(?)

Well take care & enjoy your appartment & all the Best,
TDK

Hi TDK,

Agree with you there, I wouldn't advise taking the risk of packing your property documents in the luggage hold. I carry mine in a bursting at the seams laptop case - no laptop (left that out in Goa). Infact, my entire hand luggage is legal papers relating to the property in Goa.

Those originals are too valuable to lose, and too much blood, sweat & tears, not going through all that again.

Regards

Hi Babu,

Quite agree about the blood, sweat n tears! Also i think it would be especially risky on flights that involve a stopover (such as my return flight on Jet which goes via Mumbai from Goa), but luckily for me my outbound flight is direct Lon>Del, so in the worst case i'll just hold onto the originals and put the copies etc in the check-in.

Regards

Hi TDK

The flight with Jet Airways was fantastic, brand new plane and excellent service. We were very lucky we had 3 seats each so we could lay down and sleep the whole way to Mumbai. Our flight was delayed at Mumbai down to Goa but we asked could we get on the earlier delayed flight, they arranged this and we got to Goa no later than if we had caught our original flight! With regards to the luggage, we should have weighed in at 56kg, but our luggage weighed about 61kg plus my husband had his fishing rod, they didn't even weigh that! My hand luggage was 7KG but my husband had our laptop etc in his so it weighed about 8.5KG, they didn't weigh our hand luggage! Really recommend Jet Airways, will always try to travel with them if we can.

We packed our bags with the attitude that we would just pay for the extra baggage.

Hope this helps, enjoy the flight. Good luck with it all, contact us when you get here.

Regards

Hi Kinrara,

Thanks very much for your reply & good wishes and you've really helped to reassure me about the hand baggage situation (as Virgin are extremely strict on their allowances and i had to repack my bags at the airport last time)! If i can also get away with about 8kgs that would be perfect.

I'm glad you had a good flight on Jet and i like the sound of new planes and spare seats That happened to me once on the way back from Bangkok and i felt a little guilty at 1st (but not for long ) as 3 big business men were begrudgingly squashed in the seats behind me while i had my backpackers row to myself and a good nights' kip (i put it down to the blessings of the Emerald Buddha)!

Well time is flying by towards the next long awaited chapter and i haven't even started packing yet as still wading through tons of paper work/tying up loose ends & trying to decide what to take and what to put into storage etc!

Anyway thanks again for your help and i wish you and your OH all the best with settling into your new life in Goa and would be great to catch up over there soon.

Kind regards
TDK

Anyway
