A report in the papers this weekend quoting the Russian tourism representative says that they expect Russian tourist arrivals to be 50% down on last season.

Thanks, I expect their recession/sanctions kicking in a bit. Sad for the Goan's really. Not that Russian's are a final deciding factor but it is one, sitting as the only sole Europeans on the beach gets a little odd. A nice mix of people and cultures is always best.

... and widespread anti-Russian sentiment, harassment of their tour-guides/translators and attacks/blockades by feral taxi drivers etc. probably didn't help!

There are less Russians everywhere because of the economic difficulties, value of the ruble and the fact that EU sanctions have bitten hard after all the problems with Ukraine. There are very few in Spain this year and the only ones are the really rich who are after Cheddar cheese and a good Rioja!
There will be plenty of domestic tourists though to make up for the lack of Russians and Europeans.
Its such a shame for the Goans who have always brought out the best in us all!
