Bipat there is no difference between South Goa and Karwar and North Goa. There was 20 years ago but sadly mass unregulated tourism has destroyed all of them.To put it in a nut shell greed and The Konkan Railway have completely buggered up this corner of India, that and the newly enlarged motorways. If your looking for somewhere quiet and peacefull, clean air and thats relatively crime free then you have to study the maps and check for accessibility. The reason Goa was so pristine years ago was inaccessibility. No rail connections and NH17 was a complete mess.Goa is now too near Mumbai and Bangalore and if it doesnt get its act together quick it will end up as a slum of Mumbai. I live in a compound that is rapidly becoming indianised and thats not a slur on Indians in general, just a fact. The Europeans are selling up here and Indian families are buying the properties but already garbage is appearing around the car park and over the wall because at night they throw it over when they think no one can see them. And there are bins here too and we have a rubbish collection too.Delhi would rather build missiles to threaten Pakistan than launch a nation wide campaign with central funding to combat the growing problem with consumer generated garbage. The old saying there is money in muck is very true as far as Goa is concerned.

I must very much disagree with you; there is (at the moment) a great difference between North and far South Goa.
When did you last go to Karwar? there is no mass tourism. Crime is nothing compared to North Goa. Although yes the NH17 has spoilt the outlook of the beach. Unfortunately for you though only Indian people there.
Murdeshwar a little more developed.

The Konkan railway has enabled local people to travel and get work.

You can't have it both ways, if you want European life-style, restaurants, sunbeds etc.etc you will get all the down side as well.

I can only comment about a very small area of South Goa but we experience nothing in the way of traffic congestion & exhaust fumes locally - we occasionally go into Margao by bike & as it's a trip we don't need to make, there is no pressure & the madness of the traffic (especially at 'circles') is a bit of a laugh as we are soon on our way out again.

Yes, we do feel vulnerable on the bike on the narrow roads especially when coaches, mercedes sprinter type things & Toyota people carriers are coming the other way, but then defensive riding comes into play - get over to the left & out of the way until whatever is coming is well past.

A driver we use on a night (we NEVER go out on the bike at night) who lives in Nuvem says there are a lot more murders in South Goa than there ever used to be - he told us about a 27 year old that lived near him who had a Russian girlfriend & worked as a bouncer - his bike was found on on one side of the road & he was found dead due to a head injury at the other side of the road - our driver insisted it wasn't an accident.

Off topic but have a look at this 'allotment' at the back of the local beach:

Bipat i am getting quite sick of your Keith Vaz like snide insinuations that i am some how racist. You obviously only see what you want to because its quite obvious you havent understood what i wrote in my post which is typical of you.
Who do you think you are the Keith Vaz of the Konkan Coast defending all things Indian against the any insinuations that things have gone wrong somewhere ? You are so typical Indian in your opinions that you never accept responsibilities if you can blame some one else.......

PJ I am not quite sure what you mean? Are you saying North and South Goa are not different, that seems to be a general opinion not just mine.
Are you saying Karwar is developed and has a high crime rate? It is our home I do know the place well.
I mentioned that there are only Indian people there as you complained in your post that Europeans were selling up in your complex.

Thank you so much for saying I am typical Indian in my opinions. As OH is has become so typically British, we seem to have crossed over somewhere along the line.:D
I have never thought you racist.
