Scuse me for butting in but can I ask a question?
Manu where are you living now? If you were born in India I think that you are entitled to Indian citizenship by right of birth place. In which case, depending on your current location and what citizenship you hold you may have a case for dual citizenship. Give us some more details.

Tony

What passport if any do you currently hold?
Are your parents or grandparents Indian?
Do you live /reside in India or UK?
Was your birth registered and if so do you have an indian birth certificate? (hope this question doesnt offend, its just i know a lot of indians that dont have a BC)
I am trying to work out a possible solution for you hence all the questions.
Regarding your question, yes...my father is indian although i was born and raised here in the UK.

In regards to the article published in your esteemed paper, dtd Oct 6th, ‘Nightmare for foreigners buying Goan homesâ€, I for one am glad that the government has finally taken such a stance. We, as Indians go abroad & find that our Indian citizenship has little or almost no value when it comes to purchasing properties abroad & accordingly we too have to adhere to the respective countries rules.
If the United States, requires a minimum of 5 yr residence for green card holders prior to issuing citizenship & if the entire gulf region has their requirements for purchase of freehold property, then why not India too.??!! Kudos to the Indian/ Goan Government. It’s time the whole world stopped looking down on us & we make our demands more qualitative.

Yes Noni,
Your right.......for the people like yourself who did everything by the book pre Aug 06....they should honour the registration and deem the sale legal as you were a resident fn at the time.
You are in a differant scenario than those who have bought on a tourist visa and think that you will be ok.

Kittur has alleged that five people, who are restrained by a court not to enter the property where Jazz House is situated, on September 20, 2007, were involved in assaulting his mother, the land lady Pia Lobo and two other women. My mother, along with the others, had gone to the place to spruce it up for the coming season, he maintained.
The five people entered the place in spite of two armed police guards placed at the entrance, he asserted. The two never budged a single inch when my people and mother were being assaulted, he stated.

It does not seem to be unusual for the parties to allege criminal activity in civil disputes in India.

Thanks for the link,
This helps show how desperate some people are in trying to purchase a bit of Goa and what lengths they are prepared to go to!
Unbelievable!
Let this be a lesson to anyone out there thinking of doing something as ludicrous as this!
