Question monsoon visit

We are thinking of making a possible visit to Goa during the monsoon season as work is somewhat slack at the moment. Has anybody any experiences to pass on?? Does it rain all the time or are there occasional dry days? How may restaraunts are open and which ones? Are we insane???

Depends which month your thinking about. Its roughly from June to late September, with showers in to October.August is a good month from my own experiences.Dont go in June or July or you will end with water on the brain.Mind you there is always plenty of Valium in the chemists.Lots of bars stay open with the odd cafe .The locals have to eat too.Nice and quiet, no greedy police on the prowl, so you have the roads to your self.Insects can be a problem though and snakes, depending where your staying.Dont go near the sea for obvious reasons, mostly its full of crap that the locals have thrown in the previous season. They like throwing crap in the rivers do the Goans and it gets washed into the sea.Other than that its nice and green and fairly clean .Lots of birds and butterflies and the occasional magic sunset.

Now PJ how can you say it is the locals who throw rubbish into the rivers and the sea YOU KNOW IT IS THE TOURISTS?

Snakes? which kind and where in particular.

Yes, it's the tourists - when we/they are returning to our/their accomodations at 'odd hours' out of our/their heads on drink/narcotics - it's all we can think of, to throw our refuse into the rivers! They should get real! Ravi Naik - what a pillo(ck) of society he is. . . . . . . . . . . .

Snakes - the human kind, usually MLAs - Pacheco, Monserrate, Alemao - take your pick!

hi the monsoon is different every yr this will be my 5th monsoon here, the rains begin at the beginning of june and end at the beginning of october, but you can also get a bad storm in late october, it can rain for two or three days at a time and then you can have sun shine for a couple of weeks, or on some months it just rains at night and you get a lovely sunny day, its a bit like england you never know what the next day holds,
i would suggest if you come bring a good waterproof and also your shorts and tops and a jacket or jumper for night as it can if it has been raining get a little chilly.
a lot of your tourist bars have closed for the season, but there are plenty of places to eat and drink around calangute candolim, on sunny days there is even a 24/7 beach shack at candolim that still operates all monsoon,
there isnt as many things to do in monsoon if your coming to do the usual holiday things.
the only time i would say to avoid is the last couple of weeks in july they always seem to be very wet.
hope this help a bit let me know if you have any other questions

wen - spill the beans - where is Dolphin bar?

If you are in Goa and want "easy reading" - you know the usual womens fiction - Why Not has a brilliant library as well as good food.

Reading 'Season of the Monsoon' at the moment, don't like the grizzly bits, but is interesting can see how the Indian world of politics and police are hand in glove with the gangsters. Would rather a soppy book, escapism.

Coincidence, I've just finished 'Ganja Coast' which is a good read, and it's by the same author - Paul Mann. Season of the Monsoon was apparently Paul Mann's 1st novel to feature George Sansi - I've got a copy of S.o.t.M (£2.50 Amazon!) so I'll have to get it read, once I've finished 'Gone Tomorrow' - the new Jack Reacher novel by Lee Child.

Have just finished Paul Mann's Season of the Monsoon. Have learnt about the Hindu's Hijdas - mind boggles. Good book shows how the system works.
