Over to you guys Wayne and PJ - I bet you have some fab tales to tell us all - would love to hear them.... especially your exploits with the infamous Jungle Barry who I believe is a legend.

On the subject of Jungle Barry, I read a book called something like 'Born Lucky' which laid claim that Jungle Barry was actually the missing Lord Lucan.... something to do with a scar on his hand being forensically identical to one that Lucan had. Perhaps you guys can give some thoughts on that one....

No he was Barry Halpern from St.Helens.Grammer school boy,ex teacher,done his national service and after that a professional wanderer.He must have arrived in Goa around 1973 after being in Australia for a year or so.We talked alot about the history of Lancashire and the the mystery of Lathom House near Preston.It was demolished during the Civil War and then it disappeared from history.He was a foul mouthed old Lancastrian, not Etonian.Its common knowledge in journalistic circles that Lord Lucan is buried in Mexico on his mates estate,Lord Goldsmith.He went to Ireland then onto Mexico.The car he borrowed was found in Milford Haven.There was quite a bunch of old lecherous characters around then.Doctor Josie was one i remember quite well.He used to be a Masseur in Wimbledon during the 50s and 60s until he leched his way to the notice of the local police force.He used to brag that he knew 47 different ways to bring a women to orgasm and he had this marvelous British invention from the 30s.It was an Electrical Massage Chair that had controls on the side and an electrical engine underneath .You could put it on 1 for a gentle shake or 3 for the bucking bronco experience.Barry used to call it, "Dr.Josies Magic Wanking Chair ! " Josie used to turn up in Bobbs Inn every 3 weeks for his Feni then he would basicaly go on a bender for a week drinking himself into stupor then his house keeper would wash him down and confine him to barracks until the next time he would pop into Bobbs with his cloth carrier bag for his 12 bottles of Caju Feni and the cycle would start again.........

I'm away from home at the moment but when I return I shall look up the title and details of the book I read for you. As you knew the guy, I would recommend you read it as it will offer you some rich humour value !!

Yeh I remember the good Doctor well John I have even had the privilege of seeing the chair when he lived in that flat in Calangute behind the market, but of course never sat in it :blink:
Do you remember when he got thrown out of HBR in Candolim because there was always young ladies climbing out over his ground floor balcony at odd hours in the morning :rofl:
Barry used to tell a good joke about the first time he went to Australia, He was waiting in the queue at Immigration and finally it was his turn and Barry being Barry lookin somewhat like Robinson Crusoe on a bad day!! was asked by the Immigration Officer after alot of looking through his passport "Sir do you have a criminal record" with that Barry replied in his best St Helens accent "No, do you still need one"

Can any of you remember the name of the bar on the Baga Road at the end of CSM road before it was a chinese ! It was great at weekends for musicians turning up and just playing music together! There was a guy there called Tony who did BBQ`s at weekend s with steaks he got from Karnataka before steak was readily available in Goa!!Tony prided himself on his steaks. He kept them in date order in his fridge and had 1 for breakfast every morning and wouldn`t serve them if they weren`t ready!!

I would say it was one of the best restaurants in Goa. If I remember correctly, you were the chef, and a good one too. Not forgetting your big dug, ( not a wallydug.)

Yes I was the Chef, we had it for about 5yrs then It was a mixture of the year 9/11 happened and a dead Season/personnal situation. So I gave it up.

I know it is still running and open with the dishes I taught the Local owner (Vitus who is a very nice guy by the way) and staff too cook. But I don't think it's the same as it was.
Had some real good times and used to get Turkey in for Xmas dinners!!
Had some great Xmas parties there :thumbsup:

I can vouch for that Wayne.What was your sale rap.Good food in a sea of a curry...? At the time anything that improved on Bobbs culinary delights was fantastic news.Mind you eating opposite Tommy on the long table after he had seen his dealer, was akin to eating blood puddings with Dracula...! Do you remember going to Brittos in Bagga for the first Full English Breakfast served in Goa and the bacon was so hard Barry nearly broke his teath on the rind.It was Monsoon too.Brito must have been experimenting on us.Did you get my Email ?:eek:
