What's happening to the Marriott?
Last year they demanded 500 rupees each if you used the sun beds and pool. In the past if you purchased food and refreshment you never paid for the beds or pool. Later they did not want to accept more than 1 dinner membership card on the same table, they later gave up on this scheme when couples started to occupy a table for 4
.
This season the food has deteriorated beyond belief, the entertainment has been greatly restricted. Two weeks ago, after returning from the UK, we were told at the time to pay, instead of a 50% discount we were now only entitled to 20%. We have a contract with the Marriott for this 50%, in their terms and conditions, "these terms are applicable", was their words. We were told this took affect since Feb. Never rejoined till January. A blatant lie anyway we never left Goa till April. Then they said we were informed by email, I know 2 other, now ex-members who never received this mail, is this how they do business now? by email. The complementary free night, has also been withdrawn, although this was only if vacancy was available.
If they want to change the rules that is their choice, but they should honor the agreement till the end of membership. This is supposed to be an International franchise company, but they behave like some wise guy touting a scam, they would not get away with this in Europe or USA.
The Marriott is now advertising on TV daily, emailing special offers and now announcing profit warnings on the stock exchange. Only 9 Europeans could be counted while there,is this really what they want? Or is it just not us?
We have now found much better quality food, far lower prices, no need for transport to get there and well the entertainment is what you make it.
Thanks Marriott hope you get all you deserve. I will continue to spread the word, it's the principle mainly and I still want my 850 rupees back

We won't be joining again under their new terms, plus many of our friends are not returning for the Sunday lunch or renewing their membership, shame it was good when it was good.
Welcome any new suggestions.

Thanks for your reply and support Oldman and Kinrara.
As you said when it was good it was very good, now very sad. The Marriott and Goa have both had a wonderful oppurtunity, but think their greed may well be there downfall.

Greed their downfall, Sunday they were giving 63 rups to the £ now that is taking the p.ss.
Food has gone down hill, have to ask for the salmon, and only small kingfisher at 95 rups.
Am not rejoining if we have guests who particularly want to go to the Marriott for Sunday Brunch it is cheaper to pay up once on the day. (hopefully nobody will insist on going)
Have heard that the Taj are doing a Sunday Brunch,
Have any of you tried it ?

Talking about the Marriott, which we are.
Ex-Sunday Brunch Singer,Jimmy (the singing Parsi) is now to be found on Friday nights at one of his old haunts, My Place (the old Don Pedro's) on the NH 17 at Poverim.
Hope he does well there ,he deserves to.May go and see him tonight myself.

We shall not be rejoing either. It's the end of an era. Good while it lasted but time now to have a change.
Hate the fact that they have breached what they promised. Ok if they want to give due notice and change the Sunday discount from next year but to me to do in mid year is flouting their own terms and conditions. On principle we shall not renew ( liker most of our friends and neighbours). Tried to speak to them about it but no joy. Got no where. They don't seem to understand the concept of breach of contract. Have now astopped going on Sundays altogether.
Went quite few times during monsoon and have to say the restaurant was only half full most times and the quality of food had deteriorated considerably. It is certainly no longer the place I joined 3 years ago.
Did read an atrticle in the Herald mid monsoon comparing the Marriott membership with that of Cuidad de Goa ( which seemed a BETTER OPTION ALROUND ) but don't think we would go often enough given the longer journey to get there form Candolim. However it may be a good alternative for some people. If anyone has been to find out please send a post. It seems that they offer 50% discount on the restaurant and use of the swimming pool too.

Have you had a phone call from them asking if you are rejoining?
Our neighbours and friends have, and we have twice. We have all said not until you change the package, that was before the Mumbai attacks,
:curse: No chance now.

No, have not yet had any phone calls as our membership does not run out until February. No doubt we will get them ultimately. It's hard going to try and communicate with them and make it clear why people are dissatisfied. The only thing that may may them sit up is when no one rejoins and their restaurant is empty.

There seems to be a complete silence over the case of the NRI woman who was allegedly raped at the Marriot in March this year. Has she been "bought off", was it a false charge, or is the case proceeding? Questions some of you Marriot card holders might wish to ask the management when next discussing Terms and Conditions?

The Marriot was named as the hotel in a local daily, but I can't find the link.
