Hi,
Can anyone help as I've been getting confusing answers.
I use a mac power book laptop and a nokia 6300 mobile (on vodafone pay as you go, whilst in Goa).
Is it possible to access the internet with this set up? or do I need any other additional device?
The person in the Vodafone shop in Mapusa seemed very vague and just tried to sign me up to a long term monthly payment deal, I'd rather stay pay as you go if this is possible.
Which is the best way to go?
Thank you

i would think using any mobile connection would be expensive, pop into a tata shop, buy a dongle about 30 quid and ask they guy for your best set up.
starts from 500 rps a month which is good if you are just using occasionaly for emails and stuff goes up to 1000 per month if you want unlimited d/l.

Personally, I've used Airtel pay as you go via the GPRS modem in an old Nokia 6310i - I used an infra red connection from the phone to to my lap top (would've used Bluetooth but forgot the damn Bluetooth adaptor!) and it seemed to work fine, albeit at a snails pace compared to my UK broadband. It was fine for e-mails but not quick enough for heavily graphics laden websites.
I use a Nokia 6300 mobile in the UK but I don't know if it is equipped with a GPRS modem. GPRS isn't expensive - from memory it was about Rs15 per day - but they don't always seem to charge the Rs15. Trawl back in the threads, I'm sure there's another relatively recent thread on this subject.

I believe the 6300 does have Gprs.
Do you need any sort of access code to get the link ?

I went to the Airtel shop in Margao & they set it up on my phone, it takes them a few hours to activate it at their end, but if you try & do it by phone with them apparently it takes them weeks to sort it out. They then give you an idiot sheet for you to set up what the phone has to 'dial' to access the GPRS side of things - I wasn't 100% sure what I was doing, but I must've done something correctly because it worked! My Indian sim is pay as you go & I think the Rs15 is taken from your balance when you 1st connect each day, just like a phone call is.

Any computer shop should have bluetooth dongles cheap, I paid about £10 for mine and it works fine. Got it behind Panjim market where there are 99 rupee shops raised up, just along is a mobile phone shop where I got mine. In Mapusa there is a good newcomputer shop above Ajays Supermarket in the blue Fredville building and many others around.

I forgot to take the Bluetooth adaptor from the UK, so I bought yet another in Margao for Rs 450 - guess what, no bloody driver CD (it's an old laptop) - went back to the store, blank looks, up turned palms, so I thought stuff it & used infra red - driver disc is already in my 'man bag' for our next trip out.

Hi All,
Thanks for the advice, just found out that Vodafone don't yet offer Pay as you go access to the internet in Goa, so looks like I'll have to switch companies.
