Hi all,
Apologies for firstly starting a thread purely about me
Had a job offer in Goa, I'm 24 (irrelevant really) but the pay is minimum of thousand pound sterling per month with decent bonuses on top. Is the minimum a reasonable amount to live in Goa?

A warm welcome to the forum,
1000 GBP per month in Goa is a phenominal amount of money.
You good live like a king on a lot less.
If someone offered me a job in Goa on that salary i would be over before the ink on the proposal had time to dry.

Wish you all the best whatever you decide to do,
Regards,
Remy

Cheers for the warm welcome, if that is the case I'll most definitely take it. I will probably be flying out 1st December and company puts me up for 1st month till I get my own place.
In regards to Goa itself, is it a friendly place etc etc? modern?
Sorry for basic questions just got offered job last night and dont have faintest idea what to expect.

Modern yes for India but if your comparing it to the west then no definately not.
Have you been to India before though?
Where do you live at the moment?
The reason i ask is because Goa and India in geneal is still a third world country and there is still a lot of extreme poverty. The accomodation is basic compared to what many are used to in the west and a lot of the amenities are bordering on primitive.
If you can see past this then you should be ok but a lot of people do suffer from 'culture shock' syndrome.
It is also a beautiful state, the people are friendly, the climate is great and the beaches are wonderful. What type of work do you do.....because you may find it hard doing physical labour in the heat and humidity.....if its office work you will be fine.

Remy

I am going to be working selling apartments and villas, so looking forward to that.
It will be based in Margao in South Goa and I'll be across early December.
Currently live in Scotland so hot weather not an issue
Never been to India before but have been in Dominican Republic so feel pretty aware of what I expect to find.
What is the nightlife/activities like of an evening? pubs etc?
Again your reply much appreciated mate.

Hi Swaviola,
If you are selling apartments to PIOs (persons of Indian origin) then you should not have to much trouble but please be warned....if you are going to try and sell to Foreign Nationals in Goa then put your battle armour on because you will be in for a rough ride.
Fns can no longer register their properties in Goa and many are being investigated by The Directorate of Enforcement for possible breaches of Fema. They are also being told that their purchases may be deemed illegal and indeed risk confiscation. Needless to say and rightly so, many Fns now feel conned and cheated out of both their money and their dream. Now that this has been blown wide open both in the media and online Fns are now up in arms so please be careful if you are atempting to sell to tourists and Foreign Nationals in general.
But im sure you know your job and hopefully you have done some research into the subject.
The nightlife in Goa is very good.....lots of beach bars and restaurants with things going on......depends what your into really. South Goa is quieter than the north though.......the place to be for nightlife is the Candolim, Baga, Calangute belt in the North if you like it really busy and buzzing.
Regards,
Remy

Hi Remy
Somebody has to say it as it is:
It could be TIMESHARE :curse:
OR this poor guy is being led straight into the lions den, and for £1000 a month it is definately not worth it.
He could be hounded by the FN. Things could change and "the middlemen"
take the blame for miss selling. Or even worse he could be selling land
with homes on that do not belong to the developer, then the locals will put him down the nearest well.
I feel strongly he should read Buyer Beware - and India Mike Site :curse:
dealing with property purchased in Goa.

Goans Are freindly people and speak english so u wudnt have a problem moving around ... weekends u cud always travel to north goa ,calangute ,baga etc ... tht's just a 45min drive ...Saturdays nite are always happenings in the north ..and ur bound to meet many Uk citizens ...
Lastly Dont sell real estate to foreign nationals , its illegal irrespective to what your company might say .
Dont worry , your stay in goa will be quite pleasant and memorable ...
