"We are the champions my friend...!"
We thought we did lose when sehwag and sachin got out early, but surprise surprise..gambhir and dhoni who had not performed in the whole series won the match for us.
There is a heated debate goin on as to whether sangakara cheated during the toss, well as per England's michael vaughn he did.

How long will this " We are the champions " crap go on?
Will it be worse than 1966 ?

The bloody Government has given them each a MILLION rupees, real estate, and individual states are queuing up to do similar.....
Is this good use of tax-payers money in a poverty-stricken country?
Or is it funded by foreign aid?
What a bad joke India is!

I dont want to get into the same ol discussion if the team members should've got all these perks.
In a way i think it is not an issue of how many cars yuvraj got or what piece of real estate dhoni got etc.
I dont want to mix the WC celebration with the economy of india.
What i would like to do is compare the sport 'cricket' with other national sports.
The other sports are getting a step-brotherly treatment.
If india wins Hockey WC will the celebrations and prizes be the same?..of course not.
FIrst of the question is that for Hockey to win the WC, they should be prepared in that way which is not happening.same goes for Olympic games and football.
SO the point here is that there is no prob in celebrating the game of cricket and its players, but balance the act with other sports.
In this case it would be a great gesture by the indian team, especially if the gesture is led by sachin announcing at this very moment when they r basking in the glory success that they will support the other sports in any way possible even if there is a exhibition game whereby the cricketers play a friendly match of football or hockey, or players adopt kids of the age group 12-15 to train them for olympics.
So if the above is done then go on celebrate WC victory and give whatever u want to the players!

In fact, what relevance does your reply have to my post that you have quoted?
In a land of poverty and disease, this expenditure was not a pittance, it was a very large sum of money splashed out on already very wealthy people......
Ask the people in the slums of Dharavi where they would like to see at least 15 million rupees spent.
Oh and Vishy, they didnt wait for 28 years, they failed for 28 years, just like the England football team has done for 45 years, in spite of their high wages!

Do footballers (presume you mean in UK, hence irrelevant) get the large sums of money from the government, therefore the tax payer?

But, the first one to follow this is mukesh ambani!..did u see his residential building!!..its the most expensive residential construction owned in India, then anil Ambani gifts his wife a yatch.I'm particularly pointing out ambanis as unlike tata and birlas or premji they dont give a picture of CSR to the fullest.
The solution to build rural india is not by stopping the WC splurges on players, there has to be other solution.Initially start by curbing corruption.
The worst 2g scam to hit India in 2010,frauds etc...curbing all this should be the priority.

Even if u say failed, success after 28 yrs is also great.
Secondly, as i said earlier i'm disappointed with the WC splurges on Indian team only bcos all other sports r getting third grade treatment and i hate that mentality.Imagine there r 4 bros and 1 of them is doing extraordinarily and others r failing, will he not constantly try hard to get his failure bros on track.
Our indian cricketeers are not doing that and that pinches me.
To develope the poor sector of a country, there are several other solutions rather than thinking of how they splurged more on WC celebrations.

Its more like TEN MILLION RUPEES (1 crore is 100 lacs or 100 times 100,000)
Compared to the much larger amounts these cricketers get for endorsements this is a (small though symbolic) token of appreciation by India's central and state governments (small compared to the amounts these cricketers already make).
Johnny - you don't seriously think ' poverty stricken india' used foreign aid for these payouts - if so you may want to read more to understand the Indian economy, its gdp in relation to foreign aid and where the economy is headed.
I do see your point though and also wish that distribution of wealth in India and in our world was more equitable and inclusive .
Back to the subject, India did great and truly deserved to win - congratulations !

My sincere apologies, have never managed to get a grip on "crores" in spite of them being small chabge to Goan politicians.
Look at what the Monster-rat was stopped with at Bombay.........and he claimed it was just everyday "spending money"
Have corrected previous posts, thank you.
OK, cant edit (has the gap been shortened?)
