Re: Idea Lifetime Sim Card

I have an Airtell sim card I have had the same mobile number since 2004. Every year I validate it in October and just top it up when required. As we only visit Goa three time a year and are only ever there for 2 - 3 weeks there are long periods when the phone is not used, so far I have not had any problems

Nobody rattled my cage. as for being offensive i leave that to the likes of J5. i am fed up of reading the rants and moans of a bunch of brits who only chose to live in Goa because it was cheap.

Angel of Anjuna needs to read the English more carefully before making comments. The words " thieving gits " actually refer in the sentence quoted to the telephone companies such as Idea and Airtel whose business practices are under fire ( and justifiably so).

Why do you read things that make you "fed up" - do something that makes you happy instead.:D

If AngelofAnjuna dislikes reading our moans and groans no problem. No one forces him to read this forum, he chooses to do so. I suggest he switches to reading something else guaranteed to appeal to him more, for example the moans and groans of the Goan racists who write the letters in the press about us being scum. He doesn't have a monoploy on being fed up! I for one am fed of those racist tirades that appear at regular intervals from a few individuals but my answer is not to read it.

Re: Idea Lifetime Sim Card

I have an Idea life time sim card but I can not make calls from the UK on it I can only send texts. I had a problem last year but they reinstated my sim/phone number on payment of 50 rupees. I was told that I needed to leave it in credit to at least 3k rups several years ago so have always done that and last year was the first time I had a problem.

Have a look here;

http://www.ideacellular.com/IDEA.por...h_preroam.html

I was always under the impression that considerable costs were involved to make call s on an Idea sim while in UK and this seems to bear it out!
One-off fee Rs1000
Refundable Deposit Rs2500
Call from UK to IndiaRs160 (per min/per call?)
SMS Rs15
Call within UK Rs45 (per min/per call?)

Whilst another part of the site tells us that;
Calls when roaming cost Rs60 per minute.

If you find the Idea website confusing (it is!) try one of their offices (not an agent). Nobody working there will know anything about anything and will constantly refer you to the web-site!

PS; it is not unusual to be able to send/receive SMS when roaming internationally without any agreements in place. Not calls though.

Re: Idea Lifetime Sim Card

When I tried to phone from the UK to keep my number going and could only text I emailed Idea about it, their response is below.:rofl:

Thank you for contacting Idea Cellular Customer Service.
This has reference to your e-mail regarding inability in making outgoing calls from your mobile number 9881*****.
We wish to inform you that the international roaming facility is preactivated for all prepaid sim cards.
The monthly rent of international roaming is 149.
To make outgoing calls you will have to dial *133*#. You would receive incoming call from +919822005156 on picking up that call you would be charged Rs 60/min.
To send an outgoing SMS you can dial *144* #. In response you would get a window to type the SMS. (Only 115 characters only). The charge of sending SMS would be 10, however if you send the sms in normal way you would be charged Rs 25.
We greatly value your patronage, and look forward to an opportunity to delight you.

I tried it but still could not get through except by text.:mad:
