Idea Lifetime Sim Card
#1
For reasons not to bore you with we have 2 Idea Sim cards and today we decided to change the cards as we are going away and wanted to reactive the spare one. Put this in the phone and there was no money on it.
Went to the shop to find out what had happened and we were told that the rules have been changed and was not what we were first told that to keep the Lifetime card active we had to make a call within 6 months it is now within 2 months. Digital World have stopped selling these cards as they are too much hassle.
So beware if you have the Lifetime card - 2 months not 6.
This is the second time they have ripped us off for just under 1000rps - when we came back in Sept we had no money on the card and they told us we should have made a call to India not the 4 text we had sent, after we had been told text were ok.
No use complaining - we have already been all through that and got nowhere.

Or even on "ripped off - fight back" - I put it on its own so it did not get lost with the other moans we are having at the moment.

Don't know about Airtel - we only got ripped off by them when we had had their internet connection which didn't work for days whilst we were still paying for it.

We were lucky our Airtel worked when we got back - 7 months later, but one of our friends on Ideal lost 4000 rups. I did try to text Goa on my airtel but it would not let me, can you ring on these sims to Goa, as I thought when you got back to UK it reverted to a UK company.
All comments about being 'ripped off' are excellent, we are all hear to help each other, and not let the Blighters make any more money out of us than they do.

We only use a cheappie phone here and took it back to UK with the Idea sim card in it so we could send a text back to India to keep it activated.
We were told text would do. We did send texts and got replies from Goa so it did work.
Lots of other people did the same and when we came back we all went into the office in Panjim and were told our numbers had been taken by other people as we had not made a phone call whilst we were away. (same as Suckseeds son)
So it did work in UK but will not bother in future - get another number when we come back. We had some cards printed in Mumbai with our phone number on so had to cross it out and replace it when we first got back then we had the hassle when Idea gave us another number so the cards look brilliant - all crossings out on them.

I wanted to renew the validity on my 12 month Airtel card for the next 12 months and was told by one shop that I'd need to make a call every 2 months because of 'changes in the law' following the Mumbai attack. Another shop tells me it will be ok! So who knows.

If I was keeping mine I would go with the every 2 months call then the money won't be lossed. Only need to connect, a quick hello and then off.

Can you make those calls whilst in the UK does anyone know? (I think I can set up 'roaming' on my Airtel card)
Or maybe its just easier to buy a new SIM card each visit?
