I dont. I dont live there either or intend to live there. I was just suprised to hear someone suggest that the law was going to change, especially as I have read so many times of people thinking they completely own homes when they dont.
I guess the Goan people are happy to accept the ex pats hard earned money though aren't they, when it suits them! |

We have visited Goa regularly and never received anything but a very warm welcome and in addition I have never heard a Goan suggest that they do not welcome British people as potential residents as they are well aware that we represent a valuable source of investment in the country and in particular to the Goan people. I am surprised that you feel differently.
I was making comment on the previous posters comment, Oasis 108, who even you presumed was "one of those Goans" and was suggesting Brits were not welcome You will note, as I previously said, that I dont live in Goa and have no intention of living there.;) |

Presumably you are one of these Goans then ??? !!!
Builders are throwing up buildings left, right and centre but the country does not have the infrastructure to support that many new buildings and the Government simply does not have the money to build all the new sewage systems, new power stations, new roads etc etc etc that will be required. Our own Government can't afford to do that here with all the immigrants we now have, so what chance does the the poorer Goan Government have of doing it?! As I said before, there are many dream holiday home and retirement destinations in the world, so if the Goans really don't want you there....well why inflict yourself on them? Just go somewhere else. |
Re: GOA - Buyer Beware!
Oasis I think one can hardly call India a small country as it has I believe the largest population of any country in the world. Goa is actually the smallest state of India and therefore does not count as a country on its own and is administered from Delhi as are all the states of the union of India. I do agree that a lot of development will put a strain on the infrastructure, but if the authorities were to use the taxes paid by purchasers to help maintain and build up the infrastructure it would then be able to keep pace with the requirements.

Re: GOA - Buyer Beware!
Well my partner and I were getting pretty sick of the 'chinese whispers' of owning property in Goa and decided to take the 'bull by the horns' and go and see the RBI in Panjim - have to say it was a very helpful guy we met. We had many issues - which I wont go into - but on the owning property front we were put totally straight and told that foreigners could not purchase immovable property other than a) through having a business - people who have started bogus companies and not trading WILL end up at some point being deported and losing their homes- bona fida companies can only purchase in company name b) Only other way is to PROVE that you indeed plan to be a resident and not just a 6mth holiday maker - that may take a few years :( Rest assured we are not idiots other than we took the advice of lawyers and been duped twice - HUGE lesson learned! Anyway will see you all at the meet :)

Thanks for that Chablis. Interested to know how you prove you intend to stay.We have friends who have been resident for five years and own their own Villa and have done the 182 days but were denied a further 5 year visa. Now have two year visa but must still leave the country every 6 months. I see you are resident in Goa. What is your current status in the country???
Hi Chablis, Thanks for that - this is what we have been saying that the only thing they can get us personally on now is intention to stay!!! which they can move the goal posts anyway (we have registered but DofE enquiry)out of interest did they give any indication about those who had done things correctly whether they would allow us to sell! Another thing, which has happened is a friend of mine, "bought" earlier this year and moved into flatlast month, two weeks later the D of E arrived with a letter requesting them to meet them in Panjim 3rd January - they only have an Agreement of Sale. Have seen the letter myself. They have been living over here for five years on a x visa and now have a one year x. What are they up to? |

Sucessfully registered my property today at Mapusa. It all went smoothly but the registrar told me if i had not of had a PIO Card it would have been impossible. My builder told me that if any FN has a sale agreement then just stick with it without trying to register as once you try to register you will automatically be up for investigation. They are definately not going to be registering FN property purchases from now on according to him. Noni, i dont know how they caught on to the purchaser who you know with the sale agreement unless its something to do with their x-visa. Maybe they produced a sale agreement in order to get their x visa thus sending a warning tone down the line....if you get my meaning. All in All the Buyer Beware warning stands more than ever now and any FN thinking of buying in Goa at this time is asking for trouble. Anyway on a lighter note, im looking forward to the bash tomorrow night...and dont forget everyone to meet at the bar area so we can get to know whos who. Regards to all, BTW...Ingoes Saturday Night Market opens this Saturday night ( 15th Dec) Remy PS. Thankyou everyone for your good wishes with regards to registering the property. |

Linesman is quite correct if you are a FN. Voluntry work does not help in this country friends of ours are in our situation have registered etc. etc. and still under investigation and now although they help run orphanges etc. have only been give 6 months visa's. and are worried about their property. We can only advise people - it is up to you at the end of the day what you do with your money. We only wish we had to knowledge we have now. The Indian Government do not want us to retire in their Country - many people have had letters saying that, and to go and retire in our own Country!!!. The choice is yours!!!. All purchasing make sure that the property your purchase be it in a complex, that the land belongs to the builder - there by is another story. People have bought their properties, now find that the builder does not own the land. Any way Happy New Year. |

What difference does it make if the builder does or does not own the land. We live in a Regal property, and I always thought that they owned the land. |
