Thanks for that, many of them are emailed to me from other BE members, don't know why they don't put them on the thread themselves. If you have any please put them on the thread, it is amazing how many people from all over BE pop in to read "the rubbish".

No,my parents are from sweden and not indian origin! Im and have been living in goa since birth, just the last few summers visiting my sisters and relatives in europe...but that too, only for a month or 2..

Confused, in another post you said you were German.

Also puzzled how you have lived in India all that time, did you achieve citizenship due to being born there?

I can imagine it is confusing for you, and I'm sure useful at times:D

Also thank you for explaining the OCI bit, I had no idea that you could qualify as recently as '86.

As Noni said, welcome to the forum and we all look forward to your future posts:thumbup:

Ya don't mind if I do :)

and just as quiet in Far East forum actually. 1 member (me!) and 21 lurkers. I personally think it's just the way the world is at the moment. I occasionally lurk on another place and that is quiet too.

Here in Penang we get the "winter overers" as well. Best of both worlds if you can afford to do so. Quite a few of the expat retirees I know here split their time 50:50 more or less. Half the time in Penang and half the time in their "home" country.

'Allo - from me in New Zealand.:) I'm bugger all to do with Goa or anything Goan but thought I'd pop by from an also quite quiet forum, if you get the drift.

May I have a RANT :frown:

I have a lovely pair of Pekin ducks. Boo and Woo ducks. Boo after a friends daughter and Woo after Deadwood's Chinaman.:sneaky:

I love my ducks . Everyone that knows me, here on cyber BE or in the real world knows that.
Today, the wretched , rubbish noisy, lowlife next door neighbour's dog bounded over our boundary and went for both my ducks. Good job I was home and it was only when the quacks got frantic that I realised summat was up.
Found me lovely Boo duck with a dog at her neck. Dog then found my garden rake around his earholes.
Was the dog put off . No. It then went for my feisty Woo drake. This time I did Kung Foo rake wielding - sort of - and didn't care if I hit myself in the chops.

Dog bounded off through my house and then out to next doors paddock.

I am seriously not impressed. Not with the dog. With the owners. There again, they are a pile of rubbish anyway. :frown:

Boo duck is limping and I hope all will be well.

Next you'll be telling me you eat chicken. I'll have to get earmuffs for Rosie, Nellie and Tiggs Wyandotte hens.

Re: Discussions & Rants

A while back, at the entrance of a gym, there was a picture of a very thin and beautiful woman. The caption was "This summer, do you want to be a mermaid or a whale?"

The story goes, a woman (of clothing size unknown) answered the following way:

"Dear people, whales are always surrounded by friends (dolphins, seals, curious humans), they are sexually active and raise their children with great tenderness.
They entertain like crazy with dolphins and eat lots of prawns. They swim all day and travel to fantastic places like Patagonia, the Barents Sea or the coral reefs of Polynesia.
They sing incredibly well and sometimes even are on cds. They are impressive and dearly loved animals, which everyone defend and admires.

Mermaids do not exist.

But if they existed, they would line up to see a psychologist because of a problem of split personality: woman or fish?
They would have no sex life and could not bear children.
Yes, they would be lovely, but lonely and sad.
And, who wants a girl that smells like fish by his side?

Without a doubt, I'd rather be a whale.

At a time when the media tells us that only thin is beautiful, I prefer to eat ice cream with my kids, to have dinner with my husband, to eat and drink and have fun with my friends.

We women, we gain weight because we accumulate so much wisdom and knowledge that there isn't enough space in our heads, and it spreads all over our bodies.
We are not fat, we are greatly cultivated.
Every time I see my curves in the mirror, I tell myself: "How amazing am I ?! "

I have a had a big smile on my boat since yesterday morning and the reason is that Metal Micky Pacheco is in the slammer, well nearly, because as soon as he found out he was going he became very ill.He can threaten and beat up a harmless official from the electricity department but he cannot do his bird. But the best bit i have saved to last is that he will find it almost impossible to get a USA visa from now on to access his hidden assets.Mind you there will be few long term convicts who might be interested in Pachecos hidden assets when he gets to the jail ! Dont bend over for the soap Mickey in the showers....!

Just realised no-one has answered you, so I will do my best. Firstly, you will find a lot more about this on IndiaMike. Also on there you will find a lady called "Birds" who seems to know all there is to know. She also runs a small rescue and re-homing service, or did. I think Angelique from Travelbar knows her, but probably not as Birds (I think she may be German?) and she frequents that poncy foreign-run hotel with a pool between Mapusa and Cal/Can but cant think of the name of it.
From some of the horror stories in the past,
a) make sure your pet is booked on to the same flight as you, and
b) make sure it is actually put on that flight!
You can imagine the quality of animal care staff at an Indian airport.

Another reason to make sure your pet is on the same flight as you is it will avoid the usual hold-ups with corrupt and inefficient officialdom hopefully, as you all, literally, have a plane to catch........

Incidentally, sorry things seem to have gone tits-up for you.

Don't panic!! there is no box to fill in on-line, it prints out as a blank space. (Possibly) because of advice not to book until you get your visa.
Others have said that they filled it in in biro. I printed 2 copies filled in one and left the other blank, the man at the counter said it didn't matter and took the blank one.

Yes don't worry Noni - this question is NOT mandatory so that's why it's not on the electronic form. Also the question about which port you will be leaving the UK from will not appear on the electronic form but you'll see it on a downloaded form. Both you cannot really answer if you're supposed to obtain a visa before you book a 'holiday'.

Just spent the morning doing my favorite job - NOT ironing.
To pass the time I watched the DVD West is West, glad I did as the language was awful, if I had a £1 for every F.. the indians said, I could have paid for my flight to Mumbai. I would loved to have shown the grand children the film as it showed the difference in culture, with the Indian having more than one wife etc. and the difference in the way they lived. It would have been good if not for the language. Will save Monsoon Wedding to police whilst doing next weeks ironing.

Noni the film West is West (sequel to East is East) is about Pakistani Moslem traditions. It won't teach your grandchildren anything about Indian culture.

There are dozens of Hindi film DVDs available in UK (with subtitles). Although melodramatic your grandchildren would enjoy them particularly the songs.
(Just avoid the violent ones, often with a motor-cyclist with a gun shown on the front!)

Noni, you mentioned teaching your grandchildren about Indian culture, Pakistan is a different country and culture, and "having another wife" is quite rare in India. Just did a quick search about 14% Indians are Moslem, about 5% of these have more than one wife so not 'typical 'India. (Tells more about N. England).

Yes you have to choose your film, many modern ones are completely daft. But the 'better class films' give an idea of life, and some of the play-back singers are very good. (Forget the dancing--my personal opinion dancing always has been awful).

For yourself I can recommend the really old films; eg. Satyajit Rai's films, (No songs) one is
--Pather Panchali-- I still have to leave the room when I know a particular scene is coming (don't want the red eyes)!!!
