Diesel scam - beawre!
#1
Don't fall for this scam!
My friend filled her jeep up at the Nerul petrol station and asked for Rs. 1000 of diesel. The attendant then filled it up with Rs. 300 and said 300 - OK Madame? She said no, thinking he had misheard her the first time and repeated Rs. 1000 and then the attendant filled up with 'the remaining' Rs. 700. He then said 'I put in 300 and then 700 which makes 1000'.
Basically she was forced to pay for 1000 rs of diesel and only got 700. She knew she'd been had when she switched on her car and the needle didn't even pass the half-full mark.
I personally think that because the Nerul filling station has a monopoly in the beach belt area that they can get away with this. Customers have no alternative but to go there or Anjuna which is quite far from Candolim.
Just raising awareness. My friend has asked me to pass this on so no-one else falls for it.

Please re-read what you have written Julia, this doesnt make sense.
(this particular petrol station has been ripping people off since it first opened a couple of years ago)

Customer asked for 1000 rs of diesel
Customer was supplied with rs 300
Customer was then supplied with what she ASSUMED to be a FURTHER 700 rs (to make it upto 1000)
But actually, the pump meter had not been reset to zero between the original 300 and the 'subsequent' 700, meaning that she got 700, and not the 1000 she asked for. But paid 1000.
Rs 700 worth of diesel recieved and price paid Rs 1000.
Hope this is clear now. Don't fall for it.
You mention that this particular filling station has always ripped people off. In what way in particular? Are there any other scams we should be aware of? Thanks

I would add to this to be SURE the pump meter registers zero when first filling, and then MAKE SURE the pump has been RESET TO ZERO AGAIN if they begin filling again AFTER 'mis-hearing' your original instructions and fill more fuel.
This is a scam which is difficult to prove. Awareness of it brings power.

These petrol station scams have been going on since stations opened in Goa.
Stay and watch the attendant at all times and insist it starts at zero then keep you eyes peeled.

I did go to one in Panjim by Bosco school and they tried to rip me off by Rs10, but when I counted my change I had Rs100 more than I should have. They put in Rs390 and said it was Rs400, but then gave me change of Rs200 from a 500 note. Do I feel guilty - No way
