BSNL

Ok . A new thread about BSNL.
I`m so pleased I live in Siolim.I`m a BSNL customer and have recurring probs with my landline internet connection.
We have recently got a contractor introduced to the Siolim exchange who is fabulous.
When I returned from my 2 months out my internet was diabolical. This new guy spent over an hour renewing the 4 connections in my cable in the pouring rain!
He came again at the beginning of this week as one of the connections had got f*****d up by a labourer clearing land and trying to pull a creeper out of the telephone wire!!!!!!!!!!
I sent an sms to this engineer last night as internet crap again. He turned up 1st thing this morning and found yet another join in my cable(5). These connections(copper wire twisted together)anodise and disrupt the connection for internet.....a slight crackle experinced on a phone line.
Outcome of this story is ... a complete new 100+ metre cable being installed tomorrow!
And the amazing thing is that this guy will not take baksheesh!!!!
I did give him a new waterproof coat and a cup of milky coffee back in august when he got soaked!!!That may have helped!!
Thumbs up to Sunil at BSNL Siolim...

... but... there are only two wires on a BSNL connection as far as your premises (and only two that count inside) - even for broadband.

OK - Bad BSNL story - there is no way to change subscriber name. You can shift a connection to another address (but may not get the same number); you can cancel a connection and get a new one; you can bequeath a telephone connection, but you can't change the name. If you do shift; bequeath; or new-install you pay another Rs. 5,000 deposit and must remove any broadband or payment plans first.
Apparently it all dates back (pre mobiles) to when (GPO style) it took decades to get a landline connection so they were rarer than 22carat hens' teeth, so when you moved house (or died?) you took it with you!
When I tried to do this recently at Mapusa we got two senior staff trying to work it out, after much discussion they suggested two options:
1) terminate broadband, apply to shift the connection to the same address, then apply for broadband again (a delay of only 10 - 14 days promised, but probably a different number.
2) Apply for a new connection (and number) (10-14 days) then apply for broadband on the new number (10-14 days) then apply to terminate the old connection.
I suggested plan 3 - give up and keep the connection in the previous name - to broad grins all round this was recommended as much the best option.

P.S. my electrical connection is in the name of the previous owner's grandfather!!!
