Chinese numerology and Feng Shui for 2011.
This year we are going to experience four unusual dates: 1/1/11, 1/11/11, 11/1/11, 11/11/11, and that's not all; Take the last two digits of the year you were born and the age you will be this year and the result will add up to 111 for everyone!!!! This is the year of MONEY. Also, this year, October will have 5 Sundays, 5 Mondays & 5 Saturdays. This happens only once every 823 years. These particular years are known as Moneybag years.

Tell the Greeks Noni..certainly the Eurozone is not enjoying the year of money unless in Chinese philosophy it means bailing out failing economies which in fact is what the Chinese might end up doing. They have all our Pounds Dollars and Euros anyway!

Glad I am not going to Greece for my hols this year. Do you want to stay in the Common Market?

The Chinese are not daft, they will cherrypick Euorozone asset purchases at firesale prices and the political fallout will be a new reluctance by the West to speak out about Tibet, Human Right violations, border expansion into Northern India, military build up, etc.

As a "communist" nation, it is remarkable that the Chinese have no universal health care (e.g. NHS), care for the elderly, universal State education, and Mao got away with eradicating a whole generation of educated "elitists" during the relatively recent Cultural Revolution.

But I do admire the Chinese capitalist version of communism. At least huge infrastructure projects actually get completed (without a 20 year consultation period, as in the UK). If you want to displace 20,000 households from the centre of Shanghai to create a Peace Park, go ahead, no consideration for the displacement of the people, but a wonderful and safe breathing space created at the heart of the metropolis.

Their "One Family One Child" programme also seems to be a success and something India could (but won't!) take on board.

We have some friends who spend half the year on a Greek island and the rest here in Goa. They said that tourism is up this year but people are not spending money in the bars and restaurants as they are eating at home. It was exactly the same in Spain this summer..more tourists but less spending. I guess its a sign of the times.
I am happy with the Common Market but unhappy with the way money is lent and borrowed. I think all countries including the UK should never spend more than they earn like we have to on a family budget. That is something the west could learn from the Islamic banks.
Anyway I am glad to be here even if petrol is difficult to get and highly priced!

I've come across that before - but think about it - October has 31 days (and 4x7=28) so there will always be three (consecutive) days of the week that occur 5 times. These three days will start with a Sunday approx. every 7 years (ignoring leap year calculations); or with a Saturday (as in quoted case) with the same frequency; so will include Saturday and Sunday nearly a third of the time. So where does the 823 years come from?

It's got to be 1953 or 1959. But I don't know what Shrove Tuesday is.

Apparently (if you're around long enough) you will see it in 2032 and 2043
