Question ASK THE MLA?

One member said the MLA reads the threads.
Just ask him - or tell him what you want to improve Goa for Tourists, I am sure he would appreciate your comments.

Wow!

Pavements in Candolim - without bikes on.

Roads that say NO PARKING - just that - bikes everywhere parked outwards onto the roads, and double parked - especially on Beach Road and at Newtons

Pavement everywhere in Candolim and Calengute, so that we can enjoy
looking in the shops, instead of going arse over tit on the rough roads and
keeping an eye on bikes without lights on.

Picking up locals rubbish - most of the UK residents take their rubbish to a bin.

Have the shack allocation done before the Charter flights come in so that the locals/holiday makers can have the facilities up and running, thus making holiday makers return (which they won't do after last years fiasco) and helping the local Goans who run the shacks and employ local people.
(Just speaking for my shack)

Please all of you be respectful to the MLA and perhaps things will be done to improve facilities for us, and to help the local economy which we all want to help, although we get bad press.

Perhaps they and local businessmen can put pressure on Dehli to let us have 6 month visa's, as long as we stay in India for the 6 months, otherwise it will be the local businesses that will be effected, together with the local people, many of whom are now our personal friends. Once people move on, they will not return. So please try and help us, to keep your economy alive.

Although this feels a bit like having a one-way conversation with the tooth-fairy, can I suggest "the MLA" signs up to the forum and actually answers some of these questions?

Mr MLA

If you are reading this, I would like to highlight the need to regulate the behaviour of taxi drivers, and prevent the practice of targetting tourists and charging ridiculously over inflated fares. This is something that is really off putting for tourists and leaves a bad taste in the mouth. For some tourists yjos is enough to make them not want to return to Goa.

Another scam I would like to see eradictaed is the practice of supermarkets offering sweets instead of rupees as change. They claim there is a shortage of small coins, yet it seems that small shack shops and legitimatee businesses have no problem obtaining small denomination currency. In addition the unavailability only seems to be present when the customer is non indian - whicg clearly indicates that this is a racist practice.

There are laws in India which make racism a criminal offence - so why is the charging of higher prices for non Indians so widespread and seemingly so accepted in Goa?

The wiping out of such practices would really improve Goa for tourists

the scam of giving sweets has been happening for as many years as i can remember. a long term friend saved up the sweets till he had a hundred and produced them to pay his bill in the said shop! perhaps we should all start doing this.or keep said sweets in bag and when asked if you have change produce the sweets. give as good as you get.

Never in all the time visiting Navtara in Mapusa have we had sweets as change.
Do not accept them from anyone - they will find the change if you say they can keep the goods.
We have used the same vegetable vendor in Calangute market for years and he always has change as the beggars go there at the end of each day to change their ill gotten gains into paper money and M is quite happy to change it for them.
There is plenty of change in Goa - we have a bag full to prove it and use it in our regular shops, had to go into Newtons as there was no soya milk anywhere else and she almost begged us for the bag of change. No way - get your own from the bank.

Noni - for next season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Questions for the MLA:

Please investigate accidents and fatalities and develop some action in terms of improving poor driving behaviour/lack of education on the main Calangut/Candolim beach road. A TV campaign about road safety would help as would regular ads in the daily newspapers and briefing sessions to older pupils in schools. Fines for speeding and overtaking on the wrong side of the road would be a start, as would fines for driving while using a mobile.

Spend some money building pavements for pedestrians so that they don't have to risk life and limb walking along these dangerous roads.

Organise a regular cleaning up of garbage and litter and fine shops, restaurants and individuals who do not dispose of their garbage correctly. Make each business responsible for the pavement/road in front of them and for keeping this free of litter ( as happens in Europe).

Dela with the ever growing problem of stray dogs who bite people and pass on diseases. I know of two friends of mine who this season have been bitten in the daytime while simply walking along the road in Calangute.

Organise on a State level some pressure on the electricity supply company to improve the quality and reliability of their supply.

Introduce a State wide system whereby rain which falls in monsoon is harvested and stored so that the constant water shortages can be alleviated. If you do not have the inhouse expertise to do this get advice from those countries who have.

Was this by any chance near to Snips hairdressers? If so we have reported this damn thing to the animal rescue but as yet nothing has been done. Quite a number of people have either been bitten or snapped at by this dog and one day someone is going to do something about it without waiting for animal rescue.

Yes one was near Snips. The other was near the Falcon Hotel in Calangute.
